Another Friday night of football has wrapped up and as we continue to roll through league schedules in all divisions, the games carry more importance.  We wanted to provide a quick outline of what results from Friday mean to league races in each division.  Classes 3A and 4A opened league play this week so it’s a bit early to determine those races.

CLASS 5A

  • Legacy and Fossil Ridge both picked up wins in the Front Range so that leaves Fairview alone atop the standings
  • Smoky Hill topped Denver East 30-20 so the Buffs are now alone in first atop the Metro 10 division. They lead the Angels and Westminster by one game.
  • Cherry Creek and Eaglecrest have both posted wins this week so they continue to share the Metro East lead ahead of their showdown in week eight.
  • ThunderRidge moved to 2-0 in the Metro South so Valor Christian must beat Rock Canyon on Saturday to stay tied with the Grizzlies.
  • Columbine, Ralston Valley and Pomona were all winners this week they remain tied for the Metro West lead. All three teams are 2-0 but Columbine and Ralston Valley square off next week.
  • Fountain Fort Carson, Doherty and Regis all moved to 2-0 in the South with wins this weekend. Regis and Doherty collide next week.

CLASS 4A

  • League openers were played across the state so it’s too early to breakdown conference races but Montrose picked up a huge win over Heritage (54-28) on Friday. Both teams were unbeaten on the season so the Indians grab a major road victory.  They still have league games with Ponderosa and Denver South in coming weeks.
  • Greeley West moved past Longmont 42-14 to earn a major win in the rugged Northern division. The Spartans still have Brighton, Broomfield and Windsor on their league slate.

CLASS 3A

  • The Central division is home to three teams ranked in the top six this week and all posted double digit wins in league openers. Discovery Canon won by 63 points, Palmer Ridge by 52 and Thomas Jefferson by 16.  The Spartans meet Discovery Canyon next week.
  • Pueblo East won the Cannon Game over Pueblo South 34-14 as the Eagles took advantage of two defensive stops in the first quarter to gain early control.

CLASS 2A

  • Kent Denver and Machebeuf were both winners in week seven so they share the Colorado lead at 2-0. They meet in week 10 but Machebeuf also has a difficult test with Englewood before then.
  • The Flatirons remains a three-team battle with D’Evelyn, Faith Christian and Bennett all moving to 2-0 with wins on the weekend. Bennett and Faith Christian collide next week.
  • Montezuma Cortez’s win in Alamosa on Friday left Salida and Bayfield atop the Intermountain chase. Both teams are 1-0 in the five-team conference.
  • As expected, the Patriot East chase will come down to the annual battle between Platte Valley and Sterling. They are both 2-0 ahead of their meeting in Sterling next week.
  • Resurrection Christian and Eaton share the Patriot West lead at 2-0 as both picked up wins on Friday. They face off next week in Eaton.
  • It appears that La Junta and Classical Academy will again battle for the Tri Peaks title. Both have won their first two conference games.  They meet in two weeks but the Titans must first tangle with third-place Elizabeth next Friday.
  • Rifle and Basalt are the lone 2-0 teams in the Western Slope. They square off in two weeks but both clubs have difficult tests next week against Aspen and Delta respectively.  The Skiers and Panthers are both one game back.

CLASS 1A

  • Manual beat Lake County on Friday so the Thunderbolts are 2-0 in the Foothills and will be tied with the winner of Saturday’s game between Jefferson and Platte Canyon in first place.
  • Burlington edged Holyoke in overtime on Friday (13-10) so Limon must get by Yuma on Saturday to remain tied with the Cougars atop the North Central. Limon meets Burlington next week.
  • Strasburg and Cornerstone Christian are now tied for the top spot in the Northern division as both collected wins on Friday night. They don’t meet until week 10.
  • Peyton and Crowley County continue to share the Santa Fe conference lead. Both moved to 2-0 in league play including a forfeit win over Trinidad by the Chargers.  Peyton hosts Crowley on October 19th
  • Centauri all but locked up another Southern Peaks crown by beating Monte Vista on Friday. They’re alone in first and have beaten both second place teams; Center and Monte Vista.
  • Florence and Colorado Springs Christian both scored 30 point plus wins in league play on Friday and they sit atop the Tri Peaks. Their head-to-head meeting is set for October 26th
  • Paonia and Meeker are both 2-0 in the Western Slope after posting wins on Friday. That tie will be broken when they meet next week.

  • Front Range Christian held off Elbert 34-26 on the road Friday and the win gives them sole possession of first in the Central.
  • Mancos and Sanford collide on Saturday to decide the outright leader in the Mountain division. Both teams are unbeaten in league play and on the season overall.  Neither team can officially clinch with a win.
  • Vail Christian knocked off Soroco on Friday (78-66) and that result leaves West Grand alone atop the Northwest standings (3-0). The Mustangs are off this week.
  • Caliche’s win over Merino kept them tied with Sedgwick County for the Plains conference lead. Sedgwick County goes to Dayspring Christian on Saturday needing a win to stay in first.
  • Pikes Peak Christian took a major step to landing the Southern title. After beating Simla last week, the Eagles moved past Custer County easily on Friday.  They’re 4-0 in league play.

SIX MAN

  • Genoa Hugo stayed unbeaten in the Central with their win over Colorado D&B. The Pirates can clinch the championship by beating Edison next week.

  • Prairie grabbed a league win over Weldon Valley on Friday to stay tied with Peetz for the Northern conference lead. The Mustangs and Bulldogs meet next week.
  • Neither Manzanola or La Veta are involved in league play this week so they will be both unbeaten in conference when they collide next week to determine the South Central winner
  • Kit Carson beat Walsh on Friday so the Wildcats are now 4-0 in the Southeast and tied with Granada for first. The Bobcats lost to Stratton/Liberty but can still gain the league championship if they beat Kit Carson next week.
  • Cotopaxi took over second place in the Southwest by beating Sierra Grande on Friday. Both teams have already lost to Mountain Valley so they’re likely locked into those positions.
