Our nightly series on breaking down results and how they impact league standings and the playoff series continues with a look at scores from Wednesday.  We’ll update this story as the night goes on and more results come in.

CLASS 5A

FRONT RANGE:  Horizon’s 55-42 win over Fort Collins kept the Hawks in the third place mix.  They upped their league mark to 6-2 and remain tied with Fossil Ridge and Broomfield who picked up wins on Tuesday.  All three teams are trying to chase down league unbeatens Boulder and Fairview who share the top spot.
CENTENNIAL:  Eaglecrest stopped a recent slide where they had lost four of five by taking out Mullen 69-33.  Despite the win, the Raptors remain fifth in the rugged conference.  They’re ranked 9th statewide.  Next up is a game with Arapahoe on the road Friday.  Cherry Creek moved past Overland 81-60 and Grandview topped Arapahoe 45-30 so the Bruins and Wolves continue to share the league lead.  With Overland’ loss, Smoky Hill took sole possession of third with their 88-77 win over Cherokee Trail.
JEFFCO:  The standings took a different turn on Wednesday as Columbine upset #3 Ralston Valley 57-55.  The win leaves Dakota Ridge alone atop the standings at 3-0.  The Eagles were off on Wednesday but their first place billing on the line Friday against Chatfield.  Columbine, Ralston Valley and Valor Christian, who rolled Pomona 81-69 on Wednesday, now sit tied for second place.  All have one league loss.  Arvada West joined the second place group by beating Bear Creek 54-46.  Both teams had one league loss going in.
EAST METRO:  Aurora Central won a third place battle with Brighton as they topped the Bulldogs 65-46.  The Trojans bumped their mark to 4-1 in league play and they’re tied with Vista Peak in third place.  They can make some more noise on Friday as they challenge top ranked Rangeview.  The Raiders share the conference lead with Gateway.

CLASS 4A

CS METRO:  Harrison opened the night alone atop the standings with a one game edge on Widefield and Classical Academy.  And the Panthers stay in that spot with their 83-64 win over Canon City.
JEFFCO:  Golden started their game with Standley Lake holding a one game lead on Wheat Ridge and Green Mountain.  A 52-38 win will keep the Demons alone in first.  Green Mountain lost some ground as they were upset by D’Evelyn 61-47.  That loss leaves the Rams two games off the pace.
PIKES PEAK:  Discovery Canyon handed Cheyenne Mountain their first loss of the season in a 79-67 road upset of the Indians.  The loss doesn’t hurt the Indians too much in their championship quest as they opened the night with a three game lead on second place Sand Creek.  The win though lifts the Thunder into a third place tie with Lewis Palmer who downed Vista Ridge on Wednesday.

CLASS 2A

MILE HIGH: Highland and Denver Christian continue to share the conference lead as both were easy winners on Wednesday.  Highland blew past Dayspring Christian 97-65 and Denver Christian topped Denver Academy 67-40.  The loss knocked Dayspring Christian out of first as they were also unbeaten in conference play before the setback.  They look to recover against Denver Christian on Friday in another key league contest.

CLASS 1A

5280:   Denver Jewish Day downed Denver School of Torah to stay within one game of league leaders Flatirons Academy and Denver Waldorf.  The Tigers are tied with Mile High Academy in third place.  Flatirons Academy and Denver Waldorf break the first place tie when they collide on Thursday.
