Our nightly series on breaking down results and how they impact league standings and the playoff series continues with a look at scores from Wednesday. We’ll update this story as the night goes on and more results come in.
CLASS 5A
CENTENNIAL: Grandview and Cherry Creek remain 1-2 in the standings with double digit wins on Wednesday. The Wolves took out Arapahoe 43-29 and the Bruins bashed Overland 92-28.
JEFFCO: Valor Christian rolled past Pomona 54-16 on Wednesday. The win kept the Eagles atop the standings as they entered the night as the lone unbeaten and alone in first. Five teams had a share of second place to begin the night but that number is now three as Lakewood edged Chatfield 53-52 , Ralston Valley topped Columbine 50-43 and Arvada West moved past Bear Creek 44-24. All three winners have one league loss.
CLASS 4A
PIKES PEAK: Falcon suffered a tough 49-41 loss to Palmer Ridge that could cost the Falcons a share of the league championship. The loss drops them two games back of Sand Creek. The Falcons have a game with the Scorpions to close the season but that game will be meaningless to the title chase if Sand Creek wins out. Despite the win, Palmer Ridge remains sixth in the conference standings but the win will boost their RPI. They were #22 entering the game.
CS METRO: Canon City and Sierra both took care of business on Wednesday to set up a first place showdown between the two on Friday. Canon City kept sole possession of first place and remained perfect in the conference as they survived Harrison 65-62. Sierra stayed one game back in second by beating Classical Academy 59-51. The win also gives the Stallions a nice two-game cushion ahead of the Titans in the race for second.
JEFFCO: Green Mountain and Evergreen will stay one-two in the league race as both teams posted wins on Wednesday. The Rams doubled up D’Evelyn 53-26 to stay perfect in the conference. Evergreen stopped Littleton 55-44 but remains two back of the Rams.
CLASS 3A
FRONTIER: Academy kept their perfect season record intact and took over sole possession of first place by downing Middle Park 67-25. The Panthers were also unbeaten in league play going in but the loss drops them into a second place tie with Arrupe Jesuit. They beat the Generals last week so they own the tiebreaker if the two teams stay tied. Arrupe though has yet to face Academy.
CLASS 1A
NON-LEAGUE: Lone Star picked up a fifth straight win and moved to 12-1 overall by downing Deer Trail 56-18. The Longhorns started the game ranked #8 in RPI.
