Denver Broncos great Champ Bailey hasn’t been shy about his desire to help high school athletes in their quest to transition into the next level of life. Whether that comes through athletics or not, he believes that student-athletes are the ideal candidates to enter the working world and his work with Positive Athlete is his way of contributing to that development for kids.

During his sit down with Colorado Preps this week, Bailey was asked about the Colorado ties to high school athletics and a name that popped up was current Cherry Creek football coach Dave Logan.

Logan is also the play-by-play man for the Denver Broncos on 850 KOA, so he and Bailey are no strangers to each other. During Bailey’s tenure with the Broncos, Logan guided Mullen High School to four Class 5A football championships. He beat his current team, Cherry Creek, in 2004 which coincided with Bailey’s first year in Denver.

Logan led the Mustangs to three consecutive titles in 2008-10 and also appeared in the championship games in 2005 and 2006, but lost to Douglas County and Columbine, respectively.

While promoting Positive Athlete, Bailey recounted Logan’s championships and also talked about how Logan’s impact serves as inspiration as he looks to help high school athletes through the organization.

“I did an even with [Logan] recently and I remember the state championships that he won and all the things he was doing as a coach,” Bailey said. “All that still sticks with me.”

But it wasn’t just the memories of the state championships. Bailey knew of Logan’s background as a player – and a multi-sport athlete in high school – and always appreciated how he used that background to help develop kids into young men via football.

“What he’s done inspires me,” Bailey said. “I know he played ball. I know he was on the field. But now he’s inspiring and teaching these young men how to win at the high school level, so I respect that. Being that I’m doing Positive Athlete and we’re working with [high school kids] and we’re talking, it’ll get back to him that we had this discussion and it will further our relationship and make us closer.”

In Bailey’s post-Broncos life, Logan has won six more 5A football titles as a coach, all with Cherry Creek. That includes this last fall when the Bruins beat Legend 13-10.

As Bailey looks to grow the presence of Positive Athlete for Colorado athletes, having resources like Logan will help spread the word on the benefits that the organization has to offer.
