DENVER – For the first time in school history, Colorado Academy is a girls tennis team champion. The Mustangs beat Vail Christian in the Class 3A championship dual 4-3 to clinch the program’s first championship.

It was a back and forth battle where the Saints actually led on two separate occasions, but wins by Abbey Cohen and Elise Yang at No. 3 doubles, followed by a win from Emily Archie and Bea Wadsworth sealed the win for the Mustangs.

Colorado Academy finished as the 3A runner-up two times in school history, once in 2017 and the other in 2021. Both those second-place finishes came from the team title being determined by points won in the individual championship bracket.

Three matches went to three sets in the dual, with Colorado Academy taking a 2-1 edge in those contests, winning No. 2 doubles and No. 4 doubles. Vail Christian’s Heidi Iverson won a three-set match at No. 3 singles.
