There have certainly been some changes with Colorado Preps since May, but there is one thing that isn’t going away.

The Friday Night Scoreboard Show hosted by Colorado Preps founder Kevin Shaffer will begins its 20th year of broadcasting football results from across Colorado.

The show first aired in 2003 as Shaffer saw the value in providing a means to give high school football fans an avenue to find final scores on their drive home from whichever game they were attending. The idea became a hit and the show has been picked up by affiliates from all across the state.

“When Mile High Sports was looking to acquire Colorado Preps, the Scoreboard Show was a big part of what we wanted to continue producing,” Mile High Sports and Colorado Preps owner Nate Lundy said. “Kevin has been the voice of high school football on Friday nights for the last 20 years and we wanted to make sure that tradition continues into this new era of Colorado Preps.”

No matter how many changes the landscape of high school football coverage has seen in the last two decades, the Scoreboard Show has held a consistent presence in the arena. This year is a special one for Shaffer as it has allowed him to reflect on the start of the show and just how much it has grown since the very first season.

“It’s been fun this summer looking back to when the program started in 2003 to where it is now,” Shaffer said. “The Scoreboard Show was just an idea then but seven radio stations gave us a chance and coaches allowed us to call and talk to them after big wins. The show has grown each year with affiliates and coaches now seem excited for a chance to be on the show. Always thankful for those who back in the early days gave us a chance and for all those people statewide who help us with scores each and every week. And the coaches, the discussions on-air are tremendous, the ones off-air are even better. Looking forward to tonight and the entire 20th season of the scoreboard show.”

The Scoreboard Show airs at 9:30 p.m. as final scores across the state start rolling in. Shaffer will also provide interviews with winning coaches of select games.
