Rangeview and Ralston Valley are the last remaining undefeated teams among the big-schools basketball classifications.

The Class 6A Raiders are the only team from Colorado ranked inside the nation’s top-100 teams on MaxPreps, sitting 81st. They moved to 17-0 after an eight-point win over Denver South on Tuesday night.

The No. 4 Mustangs, meanwhile, are 18-0. They got a scare on Saturday, needing free throws in the waning moments to beat Arvada West. A 60-point win over Lakewood on Wednesday should’ve served as a nice breather.

Let’s dive into what the top of the 6A-4A boys’ basketball rankings look like with two weeks left in the regular season.

Class 6A

Top four teams in CHSAA’s rankings: Rangeview, Eaglecrest, Chaparral, Ralston Valley and Regis Jesuit.

What to know: The top-ranked Raiders (17-0), who’ve outscored teams by an average of 26 points this season, have just three games remaining before their league tournament.

Perhaps 2024-25 will be the redemption they’ve been looking for since they were 26-0 and in the 2019-20 5A Final 4 before the pandemic cancelled things.

The classification’s other undefeated, Ralston Valley (18-0), survived a scare in a 64-62 win over No. 14 Arvada West on Saturday. Tanner Braketa (17.9 PPG) sank two technical foul free throws to win the final moments.

At No. 2, Eaglecrest (16-2) hasn’t lost to a team in-state since its opening-night loss to Regis Jesuit (14-4). A week ago, it rallied past Overland in a 65-59 win to stay atop the 6A/5A Continental League.

Regis is No. 4 after it lost by 11 at home to No. 3 Chaparral (15-3).

The Wolverines are tied with No. 9 Mountain Vista atop the 6A/5A Continental League. They’ll meet in the regular-season finale on Feb. 21.

Just outside the top five lurks another Continental League team, No. 6 ThunderRidge, followed by defending champ Valor Christian at No. 7.

Class 5A

Current top five: Mesa Ridge, Lutheran, Discovery Canyon, Montrose and Windsor.

What to know: Two-time defending champ Mesa Ridge (16-1) has won 16 straight since an opening-night loss to Liberty. It survived a fourth-quarter comeback by No. 17 Palmer on Tuesday as Bryce Riehl hit go-ahead free throws with 4 seconds remaining, allowing the Grizzlies to hold on and win 65-64.

Behind the Grizzlies, Lutheran (16-3) has bounced back strong since its 15-point loss to No. 8 Lewis-Palmer on Jan. 28, beating its last three opponents by an average of 29. Kade Speckman (21.9 PPG) scored 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting in a 29-point win over No. 43 Air Academy a week ago.

No. 3 Discovery Canyon (14-4) lost three of four before winning at No. 26 Palmer Ridge on Wednesday. It’ll have a chance to retake the top seed, with Mesa Ridge on Saturday followed by Lutheran on Feb. 11.

No. 4 Montrose has been led by senior Kaleb Ferguson’s 16.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this winter. The Red Hawks suffered two-point losses to 6A No. 10 Fruita Monument and 5A No. 23 Grand Junction before beating No. 47 Grand Junction Central by 34 on Tuesday.

No. 5 Windsor (14-4) improved to 6-0 at home with a 61-44 win over 6A No. 28 Loveland on Jan. 28. Madden Smiley leads the Wizards with 20.8 PPG and 8.2 RPG.

Class 4A

Current top five: Peak to Peak, Kent Denver, Aspen, Lamar and Fort Lupton.

What to know: The top-ranked Pumas survived a late charge from No. 10 Prospect Ridge Academy on Friday, winning 66-61 behind 22 points from Tysen Burton (13.7 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.9 APG).

They overtook Kent Denver (15-3) for the No. 1 ranking. The Sun Devils have won four straight since falling at 3A No. 1 Resurrection Christian on Jan. 18.

The Pumas are at Kent Denver on Feb. 18.

Behind them, Aspen (15-3) has won nine in a row since losing to Peak to Peak and No. 9 Holy Family at the start of the month. Seven different players scored at least six points in its 68-39 win over No. 47 Rifle on Saturday.

Lamar sits fourth. It lost to Aspen and No. 5 Fort Lupton last month, but has now won nine in a row. Alex Williams (19.7 PPG, 7.1 RPG) had 14 points and nine rebounds in a five-point win over 3A No. 11 The Vanguard School on Tuesday.

Fort Lupton (13-4), meanwhile, has won eight straight. Its last loss came to Resurrection Christian on Jan. 7.

On Thursday, The Bluedevils beat Alameda 97-28, outscoring the Pirates 25-0 in the third quarter.
