LAKEWOOD — Denver East boys lacrosse turned a 3-goal deficit into a 3-goal lead in a blink of an eye Monday night at Trailblazer Stadium.

The Angels trailed Chatfield 6-3 at halftime in the non-league game, but Denver East poured in six unanswered goals over the first six minutes of the third quarter to give the Angels a 9-6 lead.

Junior Paul Markson IV and senior Alex Cohen led the way for Denver East (5-2 record) with a trio of goals each.

Chatfield (3-2) actually answered with three unanswered goals to tie things up at 9-9 with 8:01 left in the fourth quarter. Seniors Tony Carlino, Brody Anderson, along with junior Wyatt Simons scored to tie things up for the Chargers.

Denver East made one final push to take the win.

A Chatfield turnover led to a goal by senior Ryder Petersen with 3:09 remaining to give the Angels a 10-9 lead. Chatfield junior goalie Jackson Lucas had some brilliant saves in the fourth quarter to gave the Chargers a chance to send things to overtime, but Denver East freshman goalie Chase Renschen held his ground in the final minute.

Cohen sealed the win for Denver East scoring with 10 seconds remaining to take the 2-goal win.

Chatfield will open its Class 5A League #2 action Wednesday, April 9, against Fairview back at Trailblazer Stadium. The conference opener is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
