Week nine is in the rearview mirror so we look back at the teams that posted the best wins. Throughout the season, we’ve limited our choices to just three teams per division but with teams starting to clinch league championships we’ve suspended that number; at least for this week.
CLASS 5A
Pomona: The Panthers held off Columbine 34-33 to keep pace with Ralston Valley atop the Metro West. The Rebels made a late charge but missed a game-tying extra point in the final minutes.
Highlands Ranch: Following an 0-5 record in non-conference play, the Falcons moved to 4-0 in the Metro South with a 35-28 win over Mountain Vista. The Falcons challenge Valor for the league title this week.
Regis: The Raiders clinched the South championship with a 41-21 win over Fountain Fort Carson
Doherty: The Spartans collected just their second win of the season in stunning #10 Legend 36-34. The win also pushed the Spartans to 26th in RPI and that would be good enough to make the playoff bracket.
CLASS 4A
Dakota Ridge: The Eagles won a top seven battle with Chatfield 34-23 to take over first place in the Jeffco.
Longmont: The Trojans kept their playoff hopes alive with a 20-14 win over #10 Brighton. The win also left the Trojans in a second place tie with the Bulldogs and Windsor in the North.
Vista Peak: Blew past Standley Lake 56-17 to remain tied with Fruita Monument atop the Pioneer conference.
CLASS 3A
Green Mountain: The Rams beat Evergreen 27-13 and knocked the Cougars out of first place in the Mt Metro. The win also pushed the Rams all the way to sixth in RPI.
Pueblo Central: The Wildcats ended a three-game losing streak in the Bell game by blanking Pueblo Centennial 23-0. Now 16th in RPI, the Wildcats are in contention for their first post-season berth since 2012.
Pueblo South: Won maybe the game of the week with an exciting 35-34 win over Durango. The teams combined for three touchdowns in the final four minutes with the winning score coming with :14 seconds left. The win also left the Colts alone atop the South Central.
CLASS 2A
Bennett: Stayed very much alive at least a piece of the Flatirons crown with a 20-7 win over D’Evelyn. The win also dropped the Jags out of a first place tie with Faith Christian.
Pagosa Springs: The Wolverines blanked Bayfield 42-0 for their first win over their conference rival since 2008. The win also left the Pirates alone atop the Intermountain conference. Another victory over Alamosa next week gives them the crown.
Classical Academy: The Titans grabbed their first ever win over La Junta (7-0) and it gave them the Tri Peaks championship.
Rifle: The Bears used two fourth quarter touchdowns to erase a 9-7 deficit to Basalt. The win pushed the Bears to the Western Slope title
Ridgeview Academy: Their 28-7 win over Riverdale Ridge gave the Rams a chance at just their second playoff berth in school history and second since 2013. They get into the bracket by beating Englewood next week
Alameda: It won’t get them into the playoffs but the Pirates stunning 20-17 win over Kent Denver gave them their first victory of 2019.
CLASS 1A
Rocky Ford: Beat Trinidad 47-0 to officially clinch the Santa Fe league crown and earn their first post-season trip since 2010.
Yuma: Blew past Burlington 34-6 to remain in great position for their first playoff entry since 2013 and just their third since winning the 2009 state title. The Indians are 12th in RPI and can also get to third in the North Central by winning the Harvest Cup with Wray.
Centauri: The 28-20 win over Florence does not factor into any league standings but will play a role in playoff bracketing next Sunday. The Falcons were 10th in RPI last week but the win pushed them to 7th.
EIGHT MAN
West Grand: The Mustangs blew past Soroco 44-0 to claim second in the Northwest.
Pikes Peak Christian: The Eagles downed Swink 33-8 to earn a second consecutive Southern conference crown.
Holly: Earned second place behind Fowler in the Ark Valley with a 35-6 win over McClave. More importantly, the Wildcats are now 14th in RPI.
SIX MAN
Stratton/Liberty: The defending state champions downed Flagler/Hi Plains 67-21 to win the East Central title. It was the only league champion not determined entering the final week.
Briggsdale: The Falcons took down North Park 41-39 to end up third in the North conference.
Granada: Secured third in the Southeast by beating Walsh 55-38. The win kept the Bobcats sixth in the RPI so they will be at home in round one next week.
Mountain Valley: The Indians handed Kim/Branson their first loss of the season and the 30-29 win moved them into the playoff bracket.
