It was a limited schedule across the state on Friday but many clubs still earned important wins to either win league titles or to remain in contention.

CLASS 1A

  • Kit Carson:  clinched the High Plains league championship with a hard fought 49-46 win at Cheraw.  The win kept the Wildcats unbeaten in the conference with a one game lead and win over second place Cheyenne Wells.
  • South Baca:  The Patriots fell in overtime to Felt OK 92-91 but Shadow Varnado exploded for 67 points in the loss.  According to the CHSAA record book, it’s the third best one game scoring total in state history.  Chuckie Sprolling of Manual scored 74 in 1987 and Lane Gooden of Kim finished with 69 in 1976.
  • Briggsdale:  The Falcons stayed alone atop the North Central with their 66-58 win over Peetz.
  • Sangre De Cristo:  The T-Birds kept sole possession of the Southern Peaks lead with an easy 79-34 win over Centennial.

CLASS 2A

  • Limon:  The Badgers set up a first place showdown with Burlington inside the Union Pacific tomorrow as they rolled Stratton/Liberty 76-35.  Burlington and Limon are both unbeaten so Saturday’s winner is alone in first.
  • Ignacio:  The Bobcats picked up a tough 50-46 road win at Ridgway to remain atop the San Juan standings.  They lead Mancos by one game.
  • Fowler:  The Grizzlies beat Rye 62-37 on the road to stay unbeaten in the Santa Fe.  They lead Holly by one game and also have a key win over the Wildcats.
  • Wray:  The Eagles will have momentum for Saturday’s big game with Sedgwick County as they downed Caliche 86-51.  Both Wray and Sedgwick County have one league loss so the winner moves very close to finishing second behind Yuma.
  • Meeker:  The Cowboys took a big step to the number two seed in the Western Slope district as they beat Rangely on the road.  They are 6-3 in conference play and tied with Paonia and Plateau Valley but they’ve beaten both the Eagles and Cowboys.  Meeker is three games back of 1A DeBeque and two behind Vail Christian.

CLASS 3A

  • Alamosa:  The Moose improved to 7-0 in the Intermountain with their 15 point win at Monte Vista.  They continue to lead Centauri by one game in the standings.  Centauri topped Pagosa Springs 53-36 to remain within range.
  • Delta:  The Panthers knocked Moffat County out of a first-place tie in the Western Slope with a 79-75 overtime win.  Moffat County opened the night tied with Gunnison and Coal Ridge in first place but the Bulldogs slip back into a third-place tie with Delta, Aspen, Grand Valley and Roaring Fork.

CLASS 5A

  • Fruita Monument:  The Wildcats continue to sit atop the Southwestern League standings after beating Grand Junction 67-34.  Fruita is now 5-0 and has a one game edge on Montrose.  The Indians look to keep pace by beating Durango on Saturday.
  • Fossil Ridge/Horizon:  The Sabercats beat Fort Collins and the Hawks took down Mountain Range so both teams remain in third place.  They both improved to 6-2 and share the third spot with Broomfield (5-2).  The Eagles were slated to play Fairview but the game was postponed.  Fairview and Boulder share the top spot with identical 7-0 marks.
