A tradition that we carry over from football into girls’ basketball is our weekly posting of the composite rankings. The composite rankings combine totals from various polls to come up with an overall top 10 in each class. Polls include the Coaches Poll from CHSAA, MaxPreps, Packard and RPI.
Teams receive 10 points for each first place vote they receive, nine points for a second place vote, eight for third and so on through the top 10 in each class. Then we total the numbers to develop our overall top 10. A score of 40 overall results in an unanimous choice at #1.
The results are actually very close to having five unanimous choices in each classification. St Mary’s (3A) and Cherry Creek (5A) both received a total of 40 points while Briggsdale (1A) and Holyoke (2A) are just one point shy at 39. Pueblo West also received 38 points in Class 4A to miss by just two points.
We list every team that received at least one vote in any poll. With 15, Class 1A has the most teams on the list with Class 3A the fewest (11)
Please note these rankings are from different days. The CHSAA coaches poll was released on Monday January 13th, while RPI and MaxPreps numbers are from today (Jan 17th). Packard poll is based on games completed through January 15th.
We will continue to post these rankings on a regular basis through the end of the regular season.
