A nice combination of important league games and attractive non-conference battles fill up the Saturday girls’ basketball schedule.  A good share of the focus will be on Class 2A where #1 Holyoke is challenged by #5 Merino and #5 Limon heads to Burlington.

Merino lost to Sedgwick County last night so the Rams start the day tied with Cougars and both teams are one game back of first place Holyoke.  The Dragons have beaten Wray and Yuma in league play already so a win today moves them very close to clinching the championship.  Merino creates a three-way tie for the top spot entering the final two weeks if they spring the upset.  Another game of note inside the LPAA has Wiggins at Akron.

Limon and Burlington and are both unbeaten in the Union Pacific chase and that winner should end up with the championship.

Soroco also goes to West Grand today needing a win to stay unbeaten in league play and alone atop the 2A Western Slope.  Coach David Bruner won his 200th career game with the Rams on Friday as they toppled Vail Christian.

Up in Class 5A, a very good matchup between #4 Arapahoe and #9 Ralston Valley.  The game finishes off a very tough back-to-back for the Mustangs as they fell to top ranked Valor Christian on Friday.

Non-league western rivals Delta (3A) and Grand Junction Central (4A) meet as well today.  Both are ranked in their respective top 10.  Central looks to rebound from a tough loss to Fruita Monument on Friday which dropped them to second in the SWL.  Delta leads the 3A Western Slope chase.

And #2 University (3A) get challenged by 4A Skyview today.  The Wolverines have been in the top 10 at times this year and sit at 16-2 on the year with one of their losses coming in overtime to #6 Roosevelt 74-68.  University is 1-1 this week; falling to #4 Eaton on Tuesday and rolling Strasburg on Friday.

Below is the entire schedule for top 10 teams.  We’ll update scores throughout the night and then below the rankings, update some games that impact league championship races.  Final scores can be sent to Colorado Preps by text to 970.380.7737.
