A quick look at the top 10 girls basketball schedule for Wednesday night along with other games important to conference races and the playoff chase.  We’ll update with scores and breakdowns throughout the night.

CLASS 1A

FINAL:  Idalia beat Arickaree/Woodlin 43-23

GAME NOTES:  Idalia clinches second place in the YWKC behind Lone Star with the win.  The Wolves will be in the playoff bracket and are in the running to host a first round game as a top 16 seed.

CLASS 2A

FINAL:  #6 Heritage Christian beat Front Range Christian 57-42

FINAL:  Hoehne beat Sierra Grande 42-24

GAME NOTES:  Heritage Christian easily bumped their mark to 12-0 on the season.  They’ve already clinched the Mile High league championship but the win helps solidify their hold on a top five playoff seed.  They’re trying to hold both Rocky Ford and Paonia for that spot.  Hoehne’s win may help him inch closer to the 2A state bracket.  They were 27th in points at tipoff with the top 24 getting into the tournament.

CLASS 3A

FINAL:  #1 Vanguard beat Banning Lewis 93-11

FINAL:  #4 Platte Valley beat #5 Eaton 47-46

FINAL:  #6 Delta beat Fruita Monument 45-42

FINAL:  #8 Brush beat Frontier Academy 66-26

FINAL:  #9 Academy beat Kent Denver 55-51

GAME NOTES:  Vanguard’s win over Banning Lewis kept the top ranked Coursers unbeaten in the Tri Peaks conference and it also gave them the championship.  They lead Manitou Springs by one game with one conference game left but they also have a win over the Mustangs.  Manitou Springs remains alone in second following their 57-37 win over Woodland Park.  Delta recovered nicely from a double-overtime loss to Grand Junction Central on Tuesday as they downed 5A Fruita Monument for the second time this year.  This one was a bit more difficult compared to the 19 point decision last month.   Platte Valley wrapped up the Patriot title with a narrow 47-46 win over Eaton.  The Broncos moved to 8-0 in league play and have just one road trip to Strasburg on Friday left on their schedule.  With the Eaton loss, Brush took over second place but they meet the Reds on Friday to officially determine the runner-up spot.  Academy bounces back from a non-league loss to University by scoring a quality win over Kent Denver.  The Wildcats were ranked 10th in seeding points and Kent Denver 11th going in so it should help Academy get closer to a top eight seed and first round bye.

CLASS 4A

FINAL:  #1 Green Mountain beat Evergreen 60-25

FINAL:  #2 Holy Family beat Berthoud 51-38

FINAL:  Columbine beat #4 Falcon 48-34

FINAL:  #9 Northridge beat Greeley West 70-40

GAME NOTES:  In rolling past Evergreen for the second time this season, Green Mountain finished off an unbeaten season at 14-0.  They remain very much alive for the top overall playoff seed and brackets will be released on Monday.  The Rams trailed Holy Family by roughly .012 points in the first official seeding rankings released today by CHSAA.  Holy Family moved to 9-1 with their non-league win over Berthoud.  Northridge was 10th in seeding points today so the Grizzlies need a couple of wins this week to reach the top eight and get a first round bye.  Teams immediately ahead of them are Classical Academy, Grand Junction Central and Canon City.  It’s a tough first loss for Falcon but the step up to 5A should help them prep for what could be a state champoinship run.  The Falcons were third in seeding points but the good competition should be enough to stay ahead of Windsor in those standings.

CLASS 5A

FINAL:  #4 Highlands Ranch beat Ponderosa 75-42

FINAL:  #6 Chaparral beat Douglas County 48-33

FINAL:  #8 Rangeview beat Gateway 80-13

FINAL:  #9 Fossil Ridge beat Fairview 39-30

FINAL:  Doherty beat Liberty 62-30

FINAL:  Vista Peak beat Brighton 57-43

GAME NOTES:  Fossil Ridge remains tied with Horizon for second place in the Front Range conference.  They moved to 7-2.  Both they and the Hawks trail Monarch (7-1) by one game in the loss column.  The Coyotes, according to MaxPreps, have concluded their schedule and if that’s the case, they’re the league champions.  Doherty secured the Pikes Peak championship with their 32-point win over Liberty.  The decision kept them unbeaten in league play and up one game on second place Fountain Fort Carson.  The Spartans have already beaten the Trojans in league play so they’re the champs regardless of the outcome of their game at Vista Ridge on Friday.  Highlands Ranch and Chaparral began play tonight sharing second place in the Continental.  Highlands Ranch did their part to stay put as they rolled past Ponderosa and Chaparral kept pace by getting past Douglas County.  Chaparral and Regis play on Friday and that game will determine the top three spots.  Regis clinches the title with a win but Chaparral creates a three-way tie for the top spot if they spring the upset.  Rangeview and Vista Peak are still 1-2 in the East Metro after wins on Wednesday.  They’re separated by one game in the standings and will play for the championship at Rangeview on Saturday.
