Teams across the state continue to push toward a league championship and placement in the post-season bracket.  We review results from Thursday and breakdown their impact on conference races and RPI standings.  We’ll continue to update through the night.

CLASS 1A

  • Springfield is the Ark Valley champion and will be the top district seed next week thanks to their 54-39 win over South Baca.  It was the first in-state loss for the Patriots.
  • Sangre De Cristo clinched the Southern Peaks title with an easy 61-17 win over Moffat.  That result also left Cotopaxi in second as they knocked off Manzanola.  Moffat ends up third.
  • Antonito locks down fourth place in the Southern Peaks thanks to a forfeit win over Aguilar. The Trojans upped their league mark to 6-4.  La Veta matched that mark by beating Sierra Grande 50-35 but the Redskins lost to Antonito earlier in conference play.

CLASS 2A

  • Heritage Christian fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 53-38 loss to 4A George Washington.
  • Hotchkiss clinches second in the Western Slope with a win over Paonia.  The decision also moved the Bulldogs to 16-3 on the season.
  • Crowley County wins the lone playoff game on the schedule tonight as they doubled up John Mall 42-21 in a District 6 play-in game.

CLASS 3A

  • Grand Valley grabs third place in the Western Slope as they beat Roaring Fork 42-36 and Moffat County lost to Coal Ridge 47-44.  Grand Valley, Roaring Fork and Moffat County all started the night at 5-3.  Delta and Cedaredge have locked up the top two spots.
  • Sterling beat Valley 48-30 in a Patriot district pigtail game and the Tigers now advance to face 2nd seeded Eaton in the quarterfinals on Friday
  • Liberty Common advances in the Patriot district tournament with a win over Frontier Academy.  Next up the Eagles faces 3rd seeded Platte Valley in Kersey on Friday.

CLASS 4A

  • Rifle secured third place in the Western Slope with a 32-26 win over Steamboat Springs.  The Bears moved one game up on the Sailors in the race for fourth and they’ve won both regular season matchups.  Rifle trails Palisade by just one game and while the Bulldogs face league champion Glenwood Springs tomorrow, they’ve beaten the Bears twice.
  • Air Academy moved ahead of Falcon in the race for second in the Pikes Peak.  Both teams were 9-3 at tipoff tonight but the Kadets beat Vista Ridge and Falcon lost to Sand Creek.  The teams trade opponents for Friday with the Kadets needing an upset of Sand Creek to remain alone in second.

CLASS 5A

  • Vista Peak keeps it a three-way tie for the East Metro lead as they roll past Westminster 85-52.  The Bison remain tied with Rangeview and Thornton atop the standings.
  • Denver South remains part of the three-team mix for the top spot in the DPL.  The Rebels knocked off Northfield and continue to share the lead with Denver East and George Washington.  Those two clubs collide on Saturday with the winner staying tied with Denver South.  South beat George Washington but lost to Denver East.
