We continue to run through results from Tuesday night in girls’ basketball and break down what impact they have on league races throughout all the classifications.

CLASS 1A

  • Flatirons Academy upset #6 Shining Mountain 49-45 on Tuesday and the win leaves the Bison alone atop the standings. Both teams were unbeaten in league play coming in.  It was the second straight loss to Shining Mountain as the Lions also fell to Briggsdale on Saturday.

CLASS 2A

  • Hotchkiss edged Soroco 43-39 so the Bulldogs are now alone in second in the 2A/1A Western Slope. Both teams had just one league loss coming in and each trailed unbeaten Meeker going in.  Hotchkiss remains one game back and Soroco is now two off the pace but both clubs challenge Meeker this weekend.  Hayden stayed tied with DeBeque and Plateau Valley in fourth as they toppled Vail Christian.
  • Ignacio avenged an earlier loss by downing #4 Del Norte 61-56 on Tuesday. The win should boost the Bobcats RPI as they entered the game #10 overall.
  • Denver Christian and Dawson both picked up wins on Tuesday night so the Thunder and Mustangs continue to share second inside the Mile High chase.  Both sit one game back and have a loss to league leading Heritage Christian.  Denver Christian and Dawson meet on the 18th and that game will likely decide second.  Dawson’s win also moved them very close to the #2 seed in the district tournament as Denver Christian moves to District 4 for the post-season.

CLASS 3A

  • Riverdale Ridge remained one game back of Skyview in the 4A/3A Colorado 8 by beating Arvada 49-39. The Ravens are tied for second with Weld Central and get their chance at the first-place Wolverines on Wednesday.
  • Jefferson Academy kept their hold on second place in the Metro with a convincing 52-30 win over Colorado Academy. The Jags continue to lead Faith Christian and Skyview Academy by two full games.
  • Eaton scored a win over Strasburg to remain alone in second and one game back of University inside the Patriot. Brush also moved past Liberty Common and Platte Valley edged Sterling so the Beetdiggers and Broncos continue to share third place.  Brush goes to Platte Valley next Tuesday.
  • Cedaredge remains in a second place tie with Roaring Fork in the Western Slope as they beat Aspen 59-13 on Tuesday.  Both clubs have a league loss to unbeaten Delta and trail the Panthers by one game in the standings.  The Rams and Bruins meet Friday in Cedaredge.

CLASS 4A

  • Three teams now sit tied for first in the rugged Tri Valley. Berthoud knocked off Holy Family on Tuesday and Erie also topped Windsor.  The results leave Berthoud, Holy Family and Erie with two losses apiece and sharing the top spot.  Windsor (10-4) fell two games back.  Berthoud hosts Windsor on Friday.
  • Thompson Valley kept their two-game advantage atop the Northern standings by knocking off Mountain View 49-22. Northridge beat Silver Creek 60-42 to remain in second place; one game up on Greeley Central.
  • Thomas Jefferson and Denver South kept their share of first place in the City league. TJ topped Denver North 65-34 and Denver South beat up Lincoln 90-2 so the two clubs remain locked with George Washington and Denver East in first place.
  • Pueblo West continues to roll through the South Central schedule. Their 58-26 win over Pueblo South moved them games up on all other clubs.
  • Weld Central kept hopes of at least sharing the Colorado 8 championship alive by drubbing Alamosa 74-29. The Rebels remain tied with Riverdale Ridge and both teams are one game back of Skyview.  The Wolverines have a loss to Skyview but can climb back into first if Riverdale Ridge beats Skyview on Wednesday.
  • Air Academy’s win over Falcon creates a two-way tie between the clubs for second place in the Pikes Peak. Both though are three games back of unbeaten and first place Sand Creek.

CLASS 5A

  • Broomfield and Fossil Ridge both collected wins on Tuesday and both improved to 9-0 in the Front Range. They meet Friday in Fort Collins to determine the league leader and likely eventual champion.  Fossil Ridge also hosts Highlands Ranch on Wednesday.  Fairview, which lost a share of the lead with a loss to Broomfield on Monday, dropped two games back with an upset loss to Rocky Mountain on Tuesday.
  • First place in the Continental is still held down by Regis and Highlands Ranch. Both were easy winners on Tuesday as the Raiders beat Castle View 62-39 and the Falcons bested Ponderosa 67-24.  Mountain Vista kept third with their 52-25 win over Legend and ThunderRidge is still fourth with a 69-11 decision over heritage.
  • Vista Peak kept their share of the East Metro league lead with a 91-32 thumping of Gateway. The Bison opened the night tied with Thornton and Rangeview in first place.  Rangeview was in action at Brighton while Thornton was favored over Adams City but no results on either game has been turned in.
  • Fountain Fort Carson took over the CS Metro lead with a narrow 50-48 win over Doherty. The teams shared the conference lead at tipoff but now the Trojans are alone in first.
  • Fruita Monument will continue to share the Southwestern league lead with Montrose after beating Grand Junction Central 50-33. Fruita and Montrose both have one league loss and will meet for a second time this season on the 18th.
