More conference championships are being decided in the final week and we look at how the results impact those league chases on Tuesday.
CLASS 1A
- Idalia handed Arickaree/Woodlin their first league and took over second place in the YWKC. The result also moved Lone Star into sole possession of the conference lead but they must still beat Arickaree/Woodlin on Friday to officially clinch the championship.
- Shining Mountain wrapped up second place in the 5280 by beating Mile High Academy 50-42. The two teams shared the runner-up spot to start the night.
CLASS 2A
- Rye’s win over Rocky Ford gave the Thunderbolts an unbeaten regular season (19-0) and the overall Santa Fe championship. The two clubs could meet again next Saturday for the district title as they will be the top two seeds in the bracket.
- Ignacio stayed perfect in the San Juan with an easy 44-18 win over Mancos
- Dawson wrapped up second place in the Mile High as they blew past Denver Christian 57-16. They led the Thunder by just one game before the game but extended their lead to two with the win with just one game remaining.
CLASS 3A
- Skyview Academy beat Colorado Academy and Faith Christian topped Kent Denver so the Hawks and Eagles close the season tied for third place in the Metro. Skyview Academy won the head-to-head meeting so they will earn the third seed for the district tournament which starts this weekend. Faith Christian is the #4 seed.
- Delta clinched the Western Slope title by beating Olathe 62-25. The win kept the Panthers unbeaten in league play with one more game to play and they will be heavily favored against Gunnison later this week. Roaring Fork stayed alone in third by downing Coal Ridge 61-50.
- University had already clinched the Patriot championship but their win over Valley (49-13) gives them a perfect 10-0 conference record to end the season. Eaton also closed at 9-1 and in second thanks to their win over Liberty Common.
- Platte Valley lands third place in the Patriot with a 51-34 win over Brush. Both teams had two losses going in so the Broncos get the higher seed for the district tournament.
CLASS 4A
- No change at the top of the Tri Valley as Berthoud, Holy Family and Erie all picked up wins. Those three clubs continue to share the conference lead with identical 13-2 records.
- George Washington remained part of the three-way tie for first in the DPL by with a win over Thomas Jefferson. The Patriots are now 7-1 and tied with Denver South (7-1) and Denver East (6-1). They face East on Saturday.
- First round winners in the Colorado 8 league tournament are Conifer, Weld Central, Skyview and Riverdale Ridge. Semifinals pit Skyview against Conifer and Weld Central vs Riverdale Ridge.
- Pueblo South moved into second place in the South Central with a win over Pueblo East. The Colts still trail first place Pueblo West by three games and the Cyclones have clinched the league championship.
CLASS 5A
- Fruita Monument is the Southwestern champion as they rolled Montrose 55-32 on Tuesday. Both teams had one league loss going in.
- The top three spots in the Front Range have been finalized. Fossil Ridge clinched the championship with their win over Fairview and Broomfield secured second by beating Poudre. Fairview settles for third with the loss.
- Regis captures the Continental championship as they edge Highlands Ranch 37-35. The Raiders and Falcons were both in the top five statewide and were both unbeaten in league play at tipoff.
- ThunderRidge and Mountain Vista both picked up wins and remain tied for third in the Continental. They meet on Friday.
- Denver East maintained their piece of the DPL lead by moving past Northfield 68-31. The Angels remain tied with George Washington and Denver South and will close against GW on Saturday.
