Girls Top 10

15 games are on the girls’ basketball top 10 schedule for Thursday and a few are very important to league standings and post-season bracketing.  Maybe the top game is in 2A between #7 Meeker and Soroco.

The Cowgirls lead Soroco by one game atop the Western Slope standings but lost to the Rams in non-league play earlier this season.  Meeker is on the road this evening but they basically clinch the championship if they can avenge the earlier loss.  Soroco creates a tie for the top spot with a win and of course takes over control based on a head-to-head win.

Also in Class 2A, top ranked Del Norte meets Ignacio in a battle of likely league champions.  Ignacio is the San Juan leader and Del Norte is favored to land the Southern Peaks crown.  The game was also pushed back from Tuesday to tonight.

In Class 1A, the Sangre De Cristo – Springfield matchup is an interesting one as the two could meet again in the regional tournament.  Both are expected to advance from districts as the T-Birds are favored to win their bracket and Springfield hopes to battle South Baca for their crown.  Fleming also gets a tough test with Prairie and needs a win to stay tied with Briggsdale atop the North Central.

In the 4A division, Holy Family goes for a season sweep of Berthoud and another win tonight locks up a top-two finish in the Tri Valley.  A victory also sets up a title showdown with Windsor next week.  The Wizards lead Holy Family by one game with Berthoud in third two games off the pace.
