With three weeks left in the regular season, league races in boys’ basketball are starting to heat up.
In this week’s look-in on 6A-4A hoops, let’s dive into a few around the state and see where things currently stand.
6A/5A/4A Granite Peaks League
Current top four: 6A No. 8 Horizon (14-2, 7-0), No. 12 Fairview (13-2, 5-1), No. 13 Broomfield (11-6, 6-1), No. 19 Legacy (10-6, 5-2).
What to know: Legacy showed why it could make a run at the league’s top spot.
The Lightning’s young core is playing well. Junior Jaedon Ward had a school-record 10 3s in a blowout win over Longmont (11-5, 4-2).
Overall, the league has seven teams currently ranked inside their respective classification’s top 20. Along with the four 6A teams above, Longmont is 16th in 5A, while Mead (10-7, 5-2) is 17th. Holy Family (8-6, 3-3) is 12th in 4A.
What’s ahead: Fairview is at Horizon on Friday night. Whoever wins will get a major boost in the league-title chase.
The Hawks have won eight straight, led by the league’s assist-leader Kaden Northrup (6.3 assists per game). The Knights have won seven in a row, with their lone two defeats of the year coming to Horizon and Longmont in overtime.
6A City League
Current top four: No. 1 Rangeview (15-0, 5-0), No. 14 Northfield (11-4, 4-1), No. 15 Denver South (10-5, 2-3), No. 18 George Washington (9-6, 2-3).
What to know: Rangeview has three players averaging at least 13.5 points per game, led by LaDavian King. The 6-foot-2 senior is averaging 20 points over his last five games, shooting 50% or better in four of them.
Outside the top-ranked team in the class, the league is full of players who could lead their teams on deep postseason runs.
Northfield is led by Judah Michael’s 17.7 PPG. Denver South’s Dominic Rhoades-Martinez has made 40 of his 80 3-pointers this winter.
What’s ahead: Rangeview is at Northfield on Friday. The Raiders beat the Nighthawks by six earlier in the month and a season sweep of them would put them in a comfortable position to win the league title.
6A/5A Continental League
Current top four: No. 4 Chaparral (13-3, 4-0), 6A No. 10 Mountain Vista (12-4, 4-0), No. 5 Regis Jesuit (13-3, 3-1), No. 6 ThunderRidge (11-5, 2-1).
What to know: Four of 6A’s top 10 teams are in this league.
In the two biggest league games to date, Chaparral beat ThunderRidge two weeks ago behind 20 points from star sophomore Christian Williams (16.9 PPG). The Grizzlies then beat Regis Jesuit by three on Jan. 21, getting 26 points from junior Drew Paine (19.3 PPG).
What’s ahead: Chaparral, winner of its last six games, has a tough road in front of it with road games against Regis Jesuit on Friday and No. 8 Horizon on Wednesday.
The other undefeated team in league, Mountain Vista, led by Cal Baskind (21.1 PPG) and Oliver Junker (14.9 PPG, 10.7 RPG), has Douglas County (4-11, 1-3) on Friday and Legend (9-6, 2-1) on Tuesday.
5A/4A Pikes Peak League
Current top four: 5A No. 17 Lewis-Palmer (8-7, 4-1), No. 2 Lutheran (14-3, 4-1), No. 7 Cheyenne Mountain (13-3, 3-1), No. 3 Discovery Canyon (13-4, 2-3).
What to know: Lutheran still holds the No. 2 ranking in 5A despite its 15-point loss at L-P on Tuesday.
The Rangers then beat No. 3 Discovery Canyon on Thursday 50-44. A week ago, though, they lost by 10 at home to Cheyenne Mountain.
Lutheran’s Kade Speckman (21.9 PPG, 10 RPG, 3-2 BPG) leads the league in scoring, rebounds and blocks.
What’s ahead: The biggest game inside the league over the next week is Cheyenne Mountain at Lutheran on Wednesday. The Red-Tailed Hawks lost to the Lions by 14 on Jan. 16.
4A/3A Metro League
Current top four: No. 1 Kent Denver (14-3, 5-0), No. 2 Peak to Peak (13-1, 2-0), No. 7 Prospect Ridge Academy (10-3, 2-0), No. 9 Jefferson Academy (11-2, 2-1).

The league’s leading scorer is also 4A’s — Jeffrey Sturges for No. 31 Steamboat Springs (5-10, 2-2). The Sailors lost eight in a row before winning their last three. During the win streak, Sturges is averaging 30.7 PPG.
What’s ahead: Aspen has a non-league game against Roaring Fork on Friday, then is at Rifle (3-13, 0-5) on Saturday.
Over those same two days, Coal Ridge is home against Moffat County (3-11, 1-4) before traveling to Steamboat Springs.
