There are plenty of top-10 matchups and league openers as Week 6 of the 2023 high school football season is underway.
Frutia knocks off No. 9 Heritage
The first top-10 upset of the night comes courtesy of a Western Slope team. Fruita Monument made the trip to Heritage and will head home with a 37-34 win over the Eagles. This gets the Wildcats to 4-2 overall on the season and they are now 1-0 in Metro 2 League play.
Turnover gets Eaglecrest within striking distance
Eaglecrest is within a touchdown of rival Grandview after capitalizing on a turnover.

Buena Vista holds strong
Buena Vista’s offense stalled for the second half, but the defense clamped down and prevented North Fork from getting into the end zone after cutting the lead in half.
The Demons win the game 14-7 and move to 5-2 on the year.
North Fork comes up big on special teams
Buena Vista lined up for a field goal to increase its lead to 10 points, but North Fork breaks through the line to block it and will have the ball at midfield to start the fourth quarter.
Simla jumps out to 3-score lead
Last year’s state runner-up is continuing to show its rightful spot near the top of the Colorado Preps Media Football Poll.
Simla has jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the second quarter over Calhan, who entered the poll this week at No. 10. The Cubs have yet to lose a game by fewer than 35 points this season.
North Fork cuts into Buena Vista lead
Trailing 14-0 at halftime, North Fork breaks for a long touchdown run to cut the Buena Vista lead to 14-7. The No. 5 Demons are coming off a 21-0 loss to Limon, their second loss of the 2023 season.
Early winners
Several games that have kicked off early have gone final. Standley Lake edged Grand Junction 14-12, Doherty beat Mountain Range 33-10, Cheyenne Wells ran by Kit Carson 65-16, Monte Vista rolled to a 62-18 win over Del Norte and TCA beat Alameda 55-6.
