It’s a move that will change the 1A boys’ basketball landscape for this winter as DeBeque standout Brennan Rigsby has announced he’s leaving the program in a transfer to Wasatch Academy in Utah. Rigsby was named first team all-state as a sophomore after helping the Dragons capture the state championship last November.
Rigsby averaged a team best 21.5 points and nine rebounds a game as the Dragons went 25-0 last season. He also knocked in 96 three-pointers. He totaled over 24 points with 84 three-pointers as a freshman.
His announcement was teased on social media last night and Colorado Preps confirmed the move with school officials today.
Wasatch Academy won another Utah state championship last winter and was unbeaten against in-state teams. They routinely play in major national tournaments and are currently ranked 14th in the nation by MaxPreps.
DeBeque will remain a threat for the state title as reigning 1A Player of the Year Wes Ryan is slated to return for his junior year. Ryan netted 19.7 points per game overall and totaled 70 in three state tournament games. In the championship win over Sangre De Cristo, Ryan finished with 27 points and five rebounds.
