Ralston Valley’s Caiden Braketa knocked down 10 3-pointers across two wins last weekend, further extending his state lead in made 3s while helping the Mustangs remain undefeated with less than a month left in the regular season.

On Saturday, Class 6A No. 2 Ralston Valley travels to No. 3 Arvada West for a showdown of unbeaten teams from the 6A Jeffco League. The Wildcats are coming off a 76-66 win at No. 18 Chatfield on Wednesday, led by 19 points apiece from Cooper Vais and Noah Meurer.

The first of two meetings between the teams this season comes nearly a year to the day since the Mustangs improved to 16-0 last winter with a 66-64 win over Arvada West. Braketa went 5-for-9 from 3-point range in the win, while his brother, Tanner Braketa, sealed it late with a pair of technical free throws.

Ralston Valley went on to win 19 games in a row before closing the season with two losses in its final four. The Mustangs fell to Valor Christian both in the regular season, then again in the quarterfinals.

Arvada West, meanwhile, reached last year’s round of 16 before being eliminated by eventual state champion Eaglecrest.

Here’s a look at some of the key matchups across the 6A–4A classifications for the upcoming week.

Class 6A

No. 2 Ralston Valley at No. 3 Arvada West, Saturday, 6:30 p.m.

The hook: The Mustangs (15-0, 5-0) and Wildcats (15-0, 5-0) are the final two unbeatens remaining in the 6A classification.

Braketa leads the state with 61 made 3-pointers on just 122 attempts (50%). Arvada West’s Keegen Balistreri is averaging 19 points per game this season.

No. 19 Regis Jesuit at No. 1 Chaparral, Friday, 7 p.m.

The hook: The top-ranked team in the classification faces off against the state’s leading scorer.

Regis Jesuit’s Eric Felder is averaging 33.3 points per game on 50% shooting. Last week, he had 46 points in a win over No. 17 ThunderRidge.

Class 5A

No. 2 Grand Junction at No. 1 Palisade, Tuesday, 7 p.m.

The hook: It’s a meetup between the top two teams in the classification for starters. It could play a major role in deciding the outcome of a deep 6A/5A Southwestern League.

Palisade (15-1, 3-1) edged Grand Junction (13-3, 3-1) 52-47 in the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 13. The Tigers actually won the rebounding battle handily, 31-16, but committed 10 more turnovers than the Bulldogs (17-7).

No. 11 Green Mountain at No. 12 Evergreen, Saturday, 6:30 p.m.

The hook: The winner will be in the driver’s seat of the 5A/4A Jeffco League.

Green Mountain (13-4, 3-0) has won seven straight, while Evergreen (12-3) pushed its winning streak to 10 with a victory over Wheat Ridge on Wednesday. Both teams remain unbeaten in league play, alongside Standley Lake (9-6, 2-0).

Class 4A

3A No. 4 Forge Christian at 4A No. 9 Prospect Ridge Academy, Tuesday, 7 p.m.

The hook: Forge Christian (13-1, 2-1 4A/3A Metro League) is a perfect 10-0 at home this season. But Prospect Ridge Academy (10-3, 1-1) brings both an electric home-court atmosphere and star scorer in Jack Brandt.

Brandt is averaging 26.2 points per game on 52% shooting.

No. 3 Montezuma-Cortez at 3A No. 18 Bayfield, Saturday, 7 p.m.

The hook: Montezuma-Cortez (15-0) is getting closer to finishing the regular season undefeated.

The Panthers went 17-7 a year ago and have won as many as 19 games in a season over the past two decades.

Perfection looks possible. With eight games remaining, six are against 3A teams ranked outside the top 15 — including No. 18 Bayfield twice, No. 25 Monte Vista twice, No. 32 Centauri and No. 34 Ignacio. Two are against 4A teams outside the top 35 in No. 36 Pagosa Springs and No. 37 Alamosa.
