A rather important Monday night of basketball across the state as a few teams have a chance to clinch league championships and several others can stay alone atop their standings with wins.  We recap the action in both boys and girls basketball and will continue to update as games go final.

GIRLS

  • Skyview clinched another 3A/4A Colorado conference crown by beating Aurora Central 70-34.  They also bounced back nicely from the tough loss to 3A power University on Saturday
  • Windsor handled Erie 78-30 to finish the Northern conference slate unbeaten.  They had already clinched the league crown prior to tipoff and will be the top seed for the league tournament which starts this week.
  • Holy Family knocks out Longmont 73-29 to finish second to Windsor in the Northern chase.  The two teams could meet again in the league tournament over the next two weeks.  Mead is a third top 10 team from the league in the bracket.
  • Classical Academy keeps their two-game cushion in the 4A CS Metro North by holding off Falcon 41-31.  It was the Titans second win over the Falcons this year
  • Peyton stays perfect in the 2A Black Forest with an easy 58-13 win over Colorado Springs School.  The Kodiaks were tied for second going in.
  • Bennett stayed unbeaten in the 3A Frontier by downing Lake County 65-21.  The Tigers face fellow league unbeaten Academy for the conference title on Thursday.
  • Dayspring Christian kept a share of the 2A Mile High lead by beating Twin Peaks Charter 88-13.  The Eagles and Heritage Christian are both perfect in conference play as the prep for a Thursday showdown.
  • Highland stays in third behind Dayspring Christian and Heritage Christian in the 2A Mile High as they moved past Dawson 58-20.  Highland still has a league game remaining with Dayspring Christian but suffered a loss to Heritage Christian last month.

BOYS

  • Centaurus locked down fifth place in the rugged 4A/5A Northern conference with an impressive 59-36 win over Silver Creek.  The Warriors placed behind Mead, Windsor, Holy Family and Longmont in conference play and all four have spent time in the top 10 this year as have the Warriors.
  • St Mary’s moved one step closer to winning the 3A Tri Peaks title by blowing past James Irwin 83-30.  That victory leaves the Pirates just win away from clinching the championship.
  • Severance secured second place in the 4A Longs Peak division with their hard fought 76-70 win over Severance.  Both teams had two conference losses going but the Eagles take the runner-up spot to regular season champion Frederick.  All teams take part in a league tournament which opens on Wednesday.
  • Evangelical Christian now stands alone atop the 1A Black Forest.  They edged Hanover 59-48 in a battle of league unbeatens.  ECA still has tough league games with Simla and Elbert before the end of the regular season.
  • 5A ranked teams Regis and Douglas County scored impressive non-league wins.  The Huskies rolled Rampart 95-55 and Regis dropped Monarch 83-69.
  • 2A Black Forest co-leader Peyton had little trouble in getting past Colorado Springs School 68-29.  The Panthers started the night tied with Thomas MacLaren in first place.
  • Hard fought 62-54 win over Pueblo County for top ranked Pueblo South (4A) tonight but it keeps the Colts alone atop the South Central.  They lead Pueblo Central by one game with Pueblo County falling four games off the pace and out of the championship discussion.  The decision was also career win #275 for Colts head coach Shannan Lane.
  • Eagle Ridge Academy knocks off Fort Lupton 63-46 in a battle of two teams that started the night in first place inside the 4A/3A Colorado chase.  With that result, Skyview must beat Aurora Central to keep a share of first place.  Eagle Ridge, Ft Lupton and Skyview were all 4-1 in league play starting the night with Aurora Central a game back at 3-2.
