LAKEWOOD — Mountain Vista’s girls flag football team remains perfect.
The two-time defending Class 5A state champions blitzed Ralston Valley 49-6 on Saturday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium in the season-opener for both the Golden Eagles and Mustangs. It was the 39th straight victory for Mountain Vista that went 19-0 the first two seasons since flag football became a CHSAA-sanctioned sport in Colorado.
A 90-minute lightning delay didn’t slow down Mountain Vista as it started its quest to remain the dominate team in the state and go after a third straight state title.
Junior quarterback Peyton Marr threw six touchdowns in her first start replacing Ariana Akey, the 2025-26 MaxPreps National Player of the Year for flag football. Akey had a remarkable 2-year run at quarterback for Mountain Vista, throwing for 8,980 yards and 171 touchdowns throughout the air. She also had 2,769 yards rushing and 35 touchdowns on the ground.
Marr had first-half touchdown passes to seniors Dani Scheich, Kayleigh Besch and sophomore Harper Hofmeir to give the Golden Eagles a commanding 28-0 lead at halftime.

Mountain Vista defense also got into the scoring action with a safety by Hofmeir to start the scoring. Junior Hadley Mattice had an interception returned for a touchdown for the Golden Eagles.
Senior Lauren Culebro’s touchdown midway through the third quarter pushed the game into a running-clock situation with Mountain Vista’s lead growing to 35-0. Senior Amelia Hansen hauled in her first touchdown catch of the season in the fourth quarter from Marr. Hofmeir grabbed her second touchdown catch of the game to finish out the scoring for Mountain Vista.
Ralston Valley — 5A state semifinalist a season ago — did prevent the shutout with a touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Alena Rauert to junior Shelby Colosimo in the final minute to make the score 49-6.
