With the approval by the CHSAA legislative council on Thursday, high school basketball in Colorado will now feature six classifications. The change will take effect for the 2022-23 season starting this November. Below is the breakdown of schools by classification.
This list will be confusing in many areas. Classes 1A and 2A are divided by districts and it does not represent the league breakdown at all. For Class 3A, the list is provided by where teams are placed for district tournaments and they don’t always represent the conference a school will compete in during the regular season. For example, defending 2A boys champion Yuma will still be a part of the Lower Platte conference but move to the Metro area for the 3A district tournament.
Classes 4A, 5A and 6A are listed by conference in their respective class. You will notice there is a ton of crossover for leagues in different divisions. We will later provide a breakdown of leagues in the new format.
Also note that in some cases, a girls team for a school is placed in one division and the boys in another.
