WHEAT RIDGE — Peak to Peak boys basketball hit the offensive gas pedal in the fourth quarter to pull out a come-from-behind road win Tuesday night.
The Pumas scored 22 points in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to erase a 5-point deficit heading into the final quarter against Wheat Ridge. Peak to Peak grabbed a 72-60 victory by outscoring the Farmers 27-10 in the final quarter.
Senior Grant Boonstra drained a trio of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to score 11 of his 13 points in the final frame. Junior Elijah Eschmeyer poured in a game-high 27 points and sophomore Tysen Burton had 14 points as Peak to Peak (9-7, 3-4 in Class 4A/3A Metro League) grabbed its fourth win in its past five games.
Peak to Peak was 20th in the 4A boys basketball CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index before the start of action Tuesday night.
Wheat Ridge (4-14, 2-5 in 4A Jeffco League) was looking to get a nice non-league victory before heading into its final stretch of conference play. The Farmers played a solid three quarters to take a 50-45 lead, but Wheat Ridge ran out of gas in the final quarter.
Junior Da’mon Bobbs led the way for the Farmers with 16 points. Wheat Ridge’s lone senior this season — Nick Dalton — had a strong game with 10 points while battling with the 6-foot-7 Eschmeyer for the majority of the game. Juniors David Salcedo and Isaac McCune combined for 20 points in the fourth straight loss for Wheat Ridge.
The Farmers have a quick turnaround with heading back into league play tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 31) at home against Evergreen. Peak to Peak returns home to face The Academy on Thursday night.
