ARVADA — Colorado Academy handed Ralston Valley its first loss of the season on the boys lacrosse field Wednesday night.
In the battle of the Mustangs — both schools’ mascots — Colorado Academy led from the get-go in the non-league game at the North Area Athletic Complex. CA (3-2 record) cruised to a 16-5 victory.
Senior Nic Jeffries, juniors Teddy Hardy and Noah Stull, along with sophomore Braden Schubert each had three goals apiece for Colorado Academy.
It was the second win of the season for the Mustangs over a Jeffco program. CA defeated Chatfield 11-7 in its season opener. The Mustangs get another shot against a Jeffco squad when it hosts Columbine on Monday, April 8.
Ralston Valley was undefeated coming into the non-league games after wins against Fruita Monument, Grand Junction and Green Mountain to start the season. The Mustangs will attempt to get back on a winning track when they square off against Denver South on Friday, April 5, at the NAAC.
Pine Creek 12, Arvada West 8
Pine Creek grabbed a 12-8 victory in the Class 5A League #1 opener against Arvada West in the first game of the varsity doubleheader at the NAAC.
Sophomore Colby King led the Eagles with four goals. Junior Nathan Considine added a trio of goals and juniors Matt Braun and Duncan Starmer had two goals each.
Pine Creek (4-2, 1-0 in league) finished second in the conference last season.
A-West senior Cooper Greason did have the highlight goal of the game. The senior fired a shot from the other end of the field found the back of the net as time expired in the first quarter.
Greason, senior Crue Wiseman and junior Creighton Major had two goals each for the Wildcats (2-3, 0-1). A-West is back in action at Heritage High School at 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, to continue league play.
