Regional tournament pairings for volleyball will be released by CHSAA on Monday but Colorado Preps uses league standings and current RPI numbers to project playoff pairings in each classification. Our picks are completely unofficial as CHSAA will release the official qualifiers on Monday.
League champions automatically qualify for regionals regardless of where they end up in RPI standings. Three league champions get into our bracket despite finishing outside the top 36 in their respective class. Custer County in 2A, DSST-Byers in 3A and Weld Central in 4A all qualify and bump teams ranked 36tth in their respective class. Once league qualifiers are in the bracket, the remaining spots are filled by RPI standings.
Once qualifiers are selected, then the volleyball committee can use additional data from MaxPreps and the CHSAA coaches polls (composite rankings) to place team in the the regionals. The top eight seeds from 1A host regional tournaments and the top 12 in classes 2A through 5A also get the benefit of playing at home later this week. All regional champions advance to the state tournament in Colorado Springs and once those events conclude, four additional wildcards are then added to the 1A state bracket.
NOTE: We made a change in our 1A picks in taking Rocky Mountain Lutheran off the list and replacing them with Elbert. Been told by a reader/coach who indicated that teams must play at least 18 regular season games to be considered for the playoffs. RM Lutheran has played just 14 matches.
