The CHSAA Football seeding committee has begun work on setting up playoff pairings for Classes 3A and 4A and they will be released later this morning.  Using data available to us at the time, we wanted to give a projection on how the brackets may lay out.  As we’ve indicated throughout the week, the seeding committee last week heavily used the combined rankings of RPI, CHSAA, MaxPreps and Packard to place teams and we feel that will happen again with 3A and 4A.
Please note that MaxPreps rankings are not included in our Composite Rankings at this time and those numbers could obviously change the seed order.

CLASS 4A

Based on the Football Index (Combined Rankings), the bracket would be placed in this order

  • #1 Pine Creek vs #16 Grand Junction
  • #8 Skyline vs #9 Ponderosa
  • #4 Montrose vs #13 Heritage
  • #5 Pueblo West vs #12 Fruita Monument
  • #2 Broomfield vs #15 Longmont
  • #7 Chatfield vs #10 Golden
  • #3 Vista Peak vs #14 Brighton
  • #6 Dakota Ridge vs #11 Loveland

There are conflicts of course as Montrose-Heritage, Broomfield-Longmont and Chatfield-Golden are all conference rematches.  As a result, we move some teams around and come up with this bracket.

  • #1 Pine Creek vs #16 Longmont
  • #8 Skyline vs #9 Golden
  • #4 Montrose vs #13 Fruita Monument
  • #5 Pueblo West vs #12 Heritage
  • #2 Broomfield vs #15 Grand Junction
  • #7 Chatfield vs #10 Ponderosa
  • #3 Vista Peak vs #14 Brighton
  • #6 Dakota Ridge vs #11 Loveland

CLASS 3A

Again we start with the Football Index to initially place teams in the bracket and it’s a good start as there are very few conflicts.

  • #1 Mead vs #16 Roosevelt
  • #8 Green Mountain vs #9 Erie
  • #4 Palmer Ridge vs #13 Holy Family
  • #5 Conifer vs #12 Thomas Jefferson
  • #2 Pueblo South vs #15 Harrison
  • #7 Frederick vs #10 Palisade
  • #3 Discovery Canyon vs #14 Lutheran
  • #6 Durango vs #11 Fort Morgan

The only conflict involves Lutheran and Discovery Canyon as those teams are in the same conference so an easy switch with Harrison at #15 could alleviate that problem.  Another concern might be travel for Fort Morgan to Durango and a switch with Palisade at #10 could also solve that concern.  But Durango and Palisade met during the regular season so the committee may want to avoid a rematch this early in the bracket.  Otherwise the pairings set up nicely.
