Class 1A volleyball teams continue their early season workouts in anticipation of season openers later this month. Merino is the defending state champion and opens the season ranked #1 in the state and they were followed by traditional powers Simla and Fleming in the preseason coaches poll. Wiley, Briggsdale and Sangre De Cristo held down spots four through six with Springfield, Kit Carson, Otis and Haxtun finishing up the top 10. As expected, individuals from those teams headline the returning statistical leaders from last season.
