New RPI standings from CHSAA have been posted this morning and below are the top 24 teams in both Class 2A and 3A.  League champions receive automatic bids to the playoffs with the remaining slots determined by these standings at the end of the regular season.

Basalt used a win at Moffat County to vault from third to first in the 2A rankings this week.  The Longhorns head up what is a strong Western Slope contingent this year as Delta (8th), Rifle (13th) and Aspen (14th) are all strong playoff contenders.  Delta also picked up a big win over Aspen last week to help their league championship hopes.

League champions earn automatic post-season bids but the team that finishes on top of their conference must finish in the top 16 to get a first-round playoff game at home.  If there is a concern for that situation in Class 2A, it could be in the Foothills, but it’s only a slight one.  D’Evelyn (11th) is the highest rated team from the league with Middle Park (16th) and Faith Christian (17th).  The Jags beat Middle Park last week and have the Eagles coming up on October 26th.  Bennett (21st) also remains in the league title picture.

In Class 3A, defending state champion Palmer Ridge continues to slowly climb up the RPI ladder.  They were outside the top 24 until this week where they jumped to 20th.  But if the playoffs opened this week, the Bears would not be the playoffs so they may have to win their conference championship just to earn a spot in the bracket.

George Washington is another team to keep an eye on.  With no press at all this year, the Patriots are 7th in the RPI standings and could very easily earn a post-season bid even if they don’t land the Mt Metro crown.  That race starts this week and could be very interesting with surprises each week.  GW, Conifer, Green Mountain and Kennedy are all 3-2 with Evergreen and Lincoln at 2-3.
