Each week of the football season, the games become more important to conference title races and RPI standings.  We breakdown results from Saturday and start to set the scene for week 10.  We’ll update throughout the day as results come in.

CLASS 5A

  • Ralston Valley sets up a second place battle with Pomona inside the Jeffco next week as they rolled past Lakewood.  Both teams are 3-1 in the conference. Columbine has already clinched the league title.
  • Doherty moves into a second place tie with Fountain Fort Carson in the South conference.  Both teams are 3-1 and will battle for the runner-up spot behind Regis next week.  The Raiders have wrapped up the league crown.

CLASS 4A

  • Bear Creek’s win over Grand Junction moves the Bears into a first-place tie with Dakota Ridge and Chatfield inside the Jeffco.  All three teams are 2-1.  None of the three leaders square off next week.

CLASS 3A

  • Lewis Palmer upset #2 Discovery Canyon 30-27 and now sits in second place and one game behind Palmer Ridge in the Central division chase.  The Bears are alone in first at 3-0 and face the Rangers next week.  Discovery Canyon suffers their first loss of the season and is now third in the division because of the tiebreaker.
  • Frederick had no trouble matching Mead’s 3-0 mark inside the North Metro as they cruised past Denver North.  The two leaders also have a two game edge on all other league members and will collide in week 11 to determine the championship.

CLASS 2A

  • Brush kept their league title hopes alive with their win over Weld Central.  The Beetdiggers are tied for second with Sterling in the Patriot East but close the regular season against first-place Platte Valley.
  • D’Evelyn clinches a top two finish in the Flatirons with their win over Bennett on Saturday.  The Jags are tied with Faith Christian at 4-0 and atop the standings.  The two teams meet next week to determine the order of the top two spots.
  • Eaton has taken over sole possession of second place behind Resurrection Christian in the Patriot West thanks to their win over Prospect Ridge.

CLASS 1A

  • Burlington’s win over Yuma keeps the Cougars tied with Holyoke in second place in the North Central.  Both teams are 3-1 and one game back of Limon (4-0).  The Cougars own the tiebreaker as they beat Holyoke earlier this year but the Dragons still have a game with Limon coming up in week 10.
  • Platte Canyon’s win over Lake County leaves the Huskies alone atop the Foothills division.  They’re 4-0 but didn’t clinch as they have a game with Manual next week and the Thunderbolts are tied for second with Clear Creek just one game back.
  • Cornerstone Christian remained in range of first place Strasburg in the Northern conference as they topped Pinnacle on Saturday.  Cornerstone is tied with Highland as the two clubs trail Strasburg by one game in the league chase.  Cornerstone challenged Strasburg next week.

EIGHT-MAN

  • Pikes Peak Christian won their seventh straight game and finished a perfect run through the Southern conference with their 65-6 win over Swink.  The Eagles had clinched the league crown before the game started.
  • Mancos picked up an easy non-conference win over Dolores Huerta to remain one of three unbeaten teams left in the division joining Sedgwick County and West Grand on that list.

SIX-MAN

  • North Park defeated Briggsdale to win fourth place in the North behind Peetz, Prairie and Fleming but more importantly the win could be enough to push the Wildcats into the playoffs.  They opened the game 17th in RPI with Briggsdale sitting two spots in front of them.  New RPI standings are released on Sunday so we’ll see if the win was enough for the Wildcats to bump up.
