After today there will be just one more Saturday of volleyball in the 1A regular season and two left for the remaining four classes.  As we’ve done each week, we’ll take results as they come in and explain what they mean to league championship discussions and in a few cases, the playoff picture.  Below are the top seven matches on tap including a few non-league contests that will play a role in the final RPI standings.
Please check back with us throughout the day as we update the story with results and further details.

CLASS 1A

  • DeBeque worked five full sets but held off 2A Rangely to stay in contention for the Western Slope championship.  The Dragons trailed 2-1 but won set four 25-22 and five 15-13 to stay tied with Vail Mountain in second place.  Both teams trail Meeker by one game and the Dragons challenge the Cowboys next week.

CLASS 2A

  • Telluride swept Mancos 3-0 on Saturday so the Miners are now the second best Class 2A team in the San Juan trailing only Dolores.  They sit fourth in the combined 1A/2A league overall.  Dolores stayed alone in second overall with their 3-0 win over Ouray.
  • Vail Mountain was forced to five sets by Paonia but the Gore Rangers hung for the 3-2 win and with it stay one game back of Meeker in the Western Slope.  They’re tied with DeBeque for that spot.

CLASS 3A

  • Coal Ridge takes over sole possession of the Western Slope lead with an impressive 3-0 win over Cedaredge.  Both clubs were 7-0 in league play entering the match but the Titans earn the 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 decision.
  • Middle Park lands another Frontier crown with their 3-1 win over visiting Bennett.  Teams were 1-2 in the standings going in.
  • Alamosa improved to 22-0 on the season by finishing off a season sweep of Bayfield 3-0.  The Moose  have a home date with Monte Vista on the 18th and a win caps off a perfect regular season.  They’re one of just three teams statewide without a loss joining Meeker (2A) and Valor Christian (5A).
  • Lamar’s 3-1 win over Salida gave the Savages a two game lead in the race for third in the Tri Peaks.  The Savages are 9-2 in league play and trail only Colorado Springs Christian (11-0) and Manitou Springs (9-1) in the league chase.  They cannot finish higher than third if with a win at Colorado Springs Christian on the 16th.

CLASS 4A

  • Palisade swept Summit 3-0 on Saturday so the Bulldogs remain alone atop the Western Slope division.  They have a one game edge on Steamboat Springs and Battle Mountain but have completed the schedule with the two challengers; splitting two matches with Steamboat and sweeping Battle Mountain.  Palisade finishes with Glenwood Springs next Thursday and Eagle Valley next Saturday.
