It’s the final day of the regular season for girls’ basketball teams across the state and only a couple of league championships are still unresolved.  Plus, there are post-season games across three different divisions.
To finish up league play, Sanford and Del Norte collide for the 2A Southern Peaks championship tonight.  Both teams are unbeaten in league play and Del Norte scored a hard fought physical 41-35 win over the Indians in non-league action last month.  Plus, a Tigers win lets them close the regular season at 19-0.  The winner also lands the top overall district seed with the loser nabbing the second spot.
Up in Class 4A, Holy Family and Windsor are tied for the Tri Valley lead.  Windsor has finished conference play at 15-1 but Holy Family has one more game left today and it’s a tough one against third-place Berthoud.  The Tigers won the first matchup 60-58 in overtime but have this one at home.  A loss drops Holy Family to second.  Berthoud cannot move up or down from third.
In Class 3A, several elimination games are on the district tournament schedule as teams that fall short see an end to the season.

  • Olathe at Gunnison (Western Slope)

Also in Class 3A, the Frontier District tournament is already to the quarterfinal stage with winners today advancing to the semifinals.  Losers drop into the consolation bracket but still have a chance to finish fifth.  Academy and Middle Park are the top two seeds in the bracket.

More elimination games can be found in Class 1A and 2A District tournaments today.  Winners advance to the quarterfinal round and losers conclude the year.
