Severance has a date with destiny this weekend. The Silver Knights are the unlikely undefeated team heading into the final weekend of the Class 4A baseball tournament.

Spoiling this party likely isn’t going to bother them. This is the first baseball championship appearance in school history and the team is aiming to take advantage of the opportunity.

But there are three more-than-capable teams standing in the way.

Lutheran, Golden and Holy Family have all shown flashes of brilliance at different times of the year. Of the four baseball tournaments still playing, the 4A field has a chance to be the biggest slugfest.

Games resume at UCHealth Park in Colorado Springs Friday at 10 a.m.

Severance

Record: 22-6

State title game appearances: 1

State championships: 0

Scouting report: Nolan Hertzke has been a tough out this postseason. He batted .500 in the first two games of the state tournament. He’s batting .456 on the year with five home runs and 27 RBIs and will try to spark the offense for the final game (or two) of the season for the Silver Knights. He’ll also likely be the No. 2 pitching option should Severance need him.

Mason Bright will likely get the ball to start the first game on Saturday. He went 11-3 with a 1.99 ERA. He also struck out 103 hitters.

Holy Family

Record: 22-3

State title game appearances: 6

State championships: 3 (2010, 2013, 2014)

Scouting report: Needing three wins, the Tigers might just have the arms to pull it off. Jacob Syverson, Brady Hudson and Jack Krueger might comprise the deepest pitching rotation in the state and if they can each get through a game, Holy Family could be in play for a fourth state championship.

The Tigers lost to the Silver Knights last weekend and are anxious for a chance to see them again, especially with the stakes so much higher.

Lutheran

Record: 17-10-1

State title game appearances: 1

State championships: 0

Scouting report: Lutheran won twice on Saturday to keep its hopes alive for a first state championship. It’s going to be a tall task with four wins needed to bring home the big trophy. Eli Morgan leads the team with a .467 batting average and also has 11 home runs to his name. He’s part of a decent pitching rotation that will have to be at its best to come away with a state title.

Golden

Record: 23-5

State title game appearances: 1

State championships: 1

Scouting report: Noah Wicks is a tough out for any pitcher still standing in the 4A tournament. He leads the Demons with a .536 batting average and has blasted 16 home runs. He and Jaydon Hord have combined to drive in 78 RBIs this spring. Golden lost to Holy Family but rebounded with a win over Riverdale Ridge to keep its championship hopes alive.
