Soroco guard Chloe Veillieux had quite the start of the basketball season last Friday as she tied the state record for most three-pointers in a game and also entered the top five for most points in a single contest. The senior hit ten three-pointers on her way to 48 points in Soroco’s win at Meeker in the semifinals of the Cowboys Shootout. The Rams won the game 73-59.
Veilleux’s 48 points put her in the top five for most points in a single game in Colorado history; tying her with Michelle Suman of Wheat Ridge who also dropped in 48 points in a 1991 game against Columbine. Abby Waner of ThunderRidge, with 61 points, holds the all-time mark and she is followed by Tracy Hill of Ridgway with 59, Marla Tappy of Prairie with 54 and Bay’lee Purdy of Deer Trail with 51. Of those four games, Purdy’s was the most recent (2011).
Veilleux also tied the state mark for most three-pointers in a single game and is the sixth person to hit 10 in a contest. Others who have hit ten trey’s in a single game include Kerri Alsbaugh of Alamosa, Ashleigh Ackerman of Trinidad, Holly Reinke of D’Evelyn, Anna Ptaskinski of Regis and Ignacio’s Avionne Gomez. Gomez is the most recent as her game came in a win over Mancos last season.
On the season, Veilleux is averaging 27 points per game and has 14 three-pointers. The Rams next face Eagle Valley on day one of the Steamboat Springs shootout on Thursday.
