1A GIRLS BASKETBALL WEEKLY REPORT

While the teams behind them keep shifting, Kit Carson remains a steady force at #1. The Wildcats ran their record to 7-0 with a pair of victories over two YWKC opponents last week. They aren’t involved in any of the key games this week, but a number of other top teams are. Heritage Christian, who fell from the rankings after not playing a game last week, dropped their Mile High league opener on Tuesday to…...

1A BOYS BASKETBALL WEEKLY UPDATE

After a week in which the top two teams each slipped one spot in the rankings, despite neither losing a game, two new teams joined the latest poll. All of the remaining squads saw a shift in their rankings, with none in the same spot as the previous release. This week’s slate of games features a pair of clashes between ranked foes. Some of the top games this week have already been played, with #4…...

2A BOYS BASKETBALL WEEKLY UPDATE

Several conference meetings between championship contenders highlight an important week across the 2A boys’ basketball landscape.  Among the top games are Sedgwick County-Fowler, Crowley County-Hoehne, Meeker-Rangely, Del Norte-Sargent and Highland-Longmont Christian. We begin with the state championship rematch between local rivals Sedgwick County and Holyoke.  The Dragons of course downed the Cougars last March to land the championship, but they lost seven talented seniors to graduation.  Because of that, they spent much of December determining…...

3A GIRLS BASKETBALL WEEKLY UPDATE

Another battle among the heavyweights in the rugged Tri Peaks conference headlines our 3A girls’ basketball report this week.  The meeting is Friday as top ranked St Mary’s heads to Manitou Springs.  The Pirates are 8-0 and coming off an important win at Lamar last week.  The Mustangs are just 4-4 but won’t be an easy out.  They’ve played a strong schedule and were a top 10 club before last week’s loss to Sterling. In…...

3A BOYS BASKETBALL WEEKLY UPDATE

Following a home loss to #2 Alamosa last Friday, #4 Kent Denver needed a quick rebound in their conference opener with #3 Faith Christian and the Sun Devils did exactly that on Tuesday as they downed the Eagles 65-51 on the road.  Each club has eight league games remaining and upsets often occur in the Metro, but the win could easily propel the Sun Devils to the league championship. The game was tight through three…...

2A/3A POST-SEASON PROJECTIONS – GIRLS

We continue our newest feature by making projections for the post-season in Class 2A and 3A girls’ basketball.  Our post-season picks will serve as a replacement for weekly top 10 rankings we’ve posted in the past. In Class 2A, the top four finishers in six districts earn automatic bids to the regional tournament.  District 3 gets three bids and District 5 earns five bids.  District champions also earn the right to host regional events and…...

2A/3A POST-SEASON PROJECTIONS

In a new feature that began yesterday, Colorado Preps will forego the weekly announcement of top 10 basketball rankings and instead focus on how the post-season bracketing may shape up.  Tuesday was the first release of our 1A projections and today we present our initial take on the 2A and 3A boys’ basketball playoffs. The projections are a bit different as the pairings are quite different than 1A.  In both classifications, district champions are seeded…...

1A GIRLS REGIONAL PROJECTIONS

As we stated with our story on Class 1A boys, Colorado Preps is doing things differently concerning rankings this year.  Instead of posting top 10 teams in the state, we’ll do a weekly check on the post-season layout and make our projections on the district qualifiers and regional tournament pairings. In Class 1A girls’ basketball, there are three regions that will qualify eight teams to the state tournament.  Each week, we’ll project the two games…...

1A BOYS REGIONAL PROJECTIONS

During the fall season Colorado Preps produced our own rankings in football but in many ways, it caused some confusion for our readers as it was simply another poll among the many also offered from CHSAANOW, MaxPreps, Denver Post and many other media outlets.  Then there was the RPI which determined football pairings at the end of the regular season.  For the basketball season, we’re taking a different route as we focus completely on the…...
