4A FOOTBALL PREVIEW – WEEK 4

The three most enticing match-ups on the Class 4A football schedule this weekend include a 250-mile roadie and two games stretching across classifications. Players from three of the current Top 10 teams in Class 4A will spend the weekend relaxing and recovering like responsible young athletes. Maybe that’s a stretch, too. The trio of games that command attention:   Thursday:  #8 Ralston Valley (5A) at #2 Loveland It was only a decade ago that these…...

5A PREVIEW – WEEK 4

It took three weeks and dozens of games before a top-heavy Class 5A finally turned in a result that could be discussed as the first, legitimate eyebrow-raiser of 2018. ThunderRidge 28, Fairview 24 certainly qualifies. No, it wasn’t power vs. power, but a more-intriguing Grizzlies team in Highlands Ranch probably earning second-year coach Doug Nisenson a signature victory against a Knights program that has been a constant in the upper mix with a 44-5 regular-season…...

4A FOOTBALL WEEK 2 PREVIEW

So a few 4A football teams clicked the kickstand and warmed us up around the cul-de-sac. This week, daddy says, “Ride!” Looking over the full slate of Week Two games involving Class 4A teams, I have cherry-picked a four-pack of fun for the stadium marquee.     Thursday, August 30                    #3 Broomfield Eagles at #2 Loveland Indians 285 days ago. 4A FOOTBALL FIRST ROUND PREVIEW

While no large-scale surprises surrounded the squads that qualified for the Class 4A football playoffs, one final-week result led to a significant shakeup in the bracket. Due to Ponderosa’s surprisingly lopsided loss to Pueblo South, the Mustangs (9-1) fell to a No. 10 seed and will open against No. 7 Loveland (10-0). That means two teams that entered Week 10 with zero losses and spent most of the year in the top five of the…...

4A FOOTBALL PREVIEW – WEEK 10

After several weeks of obliterating opponents, the Ponderosa football team is welcoming the arrival of some playoff-type competition this week. The Mustangs (9-0, 4-0) have shellacked teams mercilessly this fall, having posted six shutouts among a series of bold-faced pagan stomps. The top-ranked team in the CHSAANow.com Class 4A poll, Ponderosa has clobbered its way to a devastating 418-45 composite scoring margin. And to think, Pueblo South is an otherworldly 55-54 loss away from being…...

4A FOOTBALL PREVIEW FOR WEEK 9

An undefeated mark eight weeks into the season speaks volumes by itself, but the Loveland football team has managed to add style points. En route to their 8-0 mark, the Indians have shut out four opponents, allowed only two to reach double digits, have played in only one one-score game and have outscored opponents by a composite 359-49. For the non-math experts, that’s a 310-point spread, which is approaching an average margin of 40 points…...

4A FOOTBALL PREVIEW – WEEK 8

If we had told you at the outset of the season that three Class 4A football teams would enter Week 8 undefeated, Fruita Monument probably would not have been among your first guesses. The other two — Ponderosa and Loveland — certainly wouldn’t have qualified as shockers. But Fruita Monument indeed has joined those squads, and the Wildcats are receiving the requisite love in the polls. They are ranked No. 5 by Colorado Preps this…...

4A FOOTBALL PREVIEW – WEEK 7

After registering a blowout win and somehow losing ground in the rankings, Pueblo West football players have to be wondering what more they can do to capture the attention of the statewide audience. We have the answer: defeat Pine Creek. The Cyclones (6-0), who dropped one spot to No. 7 this week in the CHSAANow.com poll despite a 34-7 win over Air Academy, will get that opportunity this week. They’ll travel to District 20 Stadium…...

FOOTBALL RANKINGS – COLORADO PREPS (3A-4A-5A)

While Classes 4A and 5A remain virtually consistent from last week there are quite a few changes to our 3A poll this week; including two newcomers. These rankings are from Colorado Preps and are not included in the weekly polls released by CHSAA.  CHSAA releases a new set of polls each Monday through statewide voting of coaches and media representatives.  Our rankings are also not part of the RPI standings which will determine playoff wildcards…...
