Regular season games in Classes 5A, 2A, 1A, 8man and 6man wind down this weekend so remaining league champions will be crowned and playoff berths earned.  We’ll breakdown results each night and explain how they impact the conference standings and playoff picture.

CLASS 1A

  • Highland’s win over Estes Park guarantees the Huskies no worse than a second place finish in the Northern conference.  They earn a tie for the title if Cornerstone Christian upsets Strasburg will finish second if Strasburg gains the win.  The Huskies were also 16th in RPI to open the game and hope the win secures their spot in the playoffs.
  • Crowley County finishes the regular season at 7-2 with a convincing win over Ellicott.  The Chargers started the week 9th in RPI points and will be in the playoff bracket announced on Sunday.  Peyton clinched the Santa Fe title last week.

CLASS 2A

  • Sterling kept their playoff hopes by beating Weld Central.   The Tigers were 18th in RPI going into the final week and only the top 16 earn playoff visits.  Sterling will also end up second in the Patriot East if Platte Valley gets by Brush on Friday.  If the Beetdiggers win, the three will share the conference crown.

CLASS 3A

  • Frederick stretched their winning streak to seven by beating Skyview and also improved to 8-1 on the season.  The win clinches a top two league finish and the Warriors will battle Mead for the North Metro crown next week.  Mead is home to Denver North on Friday.
  • Fort Morgan improved their record to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the North Valley by blanking Niwot.  The Mustangs clinched a top two league finish and will meet #1 Erie for the league title next week.  Erie goes to Thompson Valley on Friday.
  • Harrison moved a step closer to the Southern championship with their shutout of Sand Creek.  The Panthers are the league champions if Canon City beats Mitchell on Friday.  If Mitchell wins, then the Harrison-Mitchell winner in week 11 ends up with the crown.
  • Pueblo East stays alone atop the South Central conference with their win over Pueblo Central.  The Eagles also clinch the league championship if Pueblo County upsets Durango on Friday.  If Durango wins, their regular season finale with East will determine the crown.

CLASS 4A

  • Skyline stays unbeaten in the Longs Peak by beating Fort Collins and clinches a top two conference finish.  They challenge Loveland for the title next week.  Loveland hosts Greeley Central on Friday.
  • Greeley West officially clinched the Northern championship and a playoff berth with their win over Windsor.
  • Longmont stays alive for a top two finish behind Longmont in the Northern as they outscored Mountain View.  The Trojans remain tied with Broomfield for second and face the Eagles in week 11.  Broomfield first goes to Brighton on Friday.
  • Vista Peaks stays within one game of the Pioneer lead by downing Thornton.  The Bison are 3-1 and trail co-leaders Standley Lake and Fruita Monument in the race.  The Gators and Wildcats play tomorrow in Grand Junction so the Bison will share second place with the team that falls short.  They’re eliminated from the league title chase if Standley Lake is the winner.
  • Chatfield survives a late charge from Golden in a 39-38 win.  The Demons scored with under 30 seconds left and decided to go for the winning two-point conversion.  That play was stuffed by the Chargers defense as Chatfield picked up the win.  It keeps them tied with Bear Creek (both 3-1) atop the Jeffco division.  Dakota Ridge can also get to 3-1 by beating Wheat Ridge on Friday.
  • Vista Ridge stayed with one game of the Southern 1 lead as they rolled past Palmer.  Now the Wolves will watch with great interest the matchup between league leaders Pine Creek and Grand Junction Central tomorrow.  If Pine Creek wins, then Vista Ridge will play the Eagles for the league championship next week.  If Grand Junction Central wins, the Warriors clinch with Pine Creek and Vista Ridge battling for second.

CLASS 5A

  • Columbine concluded a perfect regular season (10-0) with their high scoring win over Arvada West.  The Rebels also remain in contention for the top overall playoff seed as they were 2nd in RPI starting the week and trailed only Valor Christian by .019 in those standings.
  • Mullen defeated Lakewood 39-28 to finish the regular season at 4-6 but the Mustangs are likely playoff bound because they’ve played the most difficult schedule in 5A.  They entered the game 16th in RPI points and the 5A field this year is expanded to 24 qualifiers.  Lakewood is also on the bubble as they were 22nd to start the week.
  • Eaglecrest keeps their slim Metro East league championship hopes alive with a 28-14 win over Cherokee Trail.  The Raptors can move into a three way tie for the crown if Grandview beats Cherry Creek on Friday.  If Creek wins, the Raptors end up second.  Sitting 4th in RPI, Eaglecrest is also in good shape to land one of the eight available first round byes in the playoff bracket.
  • Arapahoe easily moved past Overland to close the regular season at 5-5.  The Warriors though are 17th in RPI and should be playoff bound when pairings are released on Sunday.
