More important volleyball matches set for Colorado on Thursday and we’ll update with results and what they mean to conference races and RPI throughout the night.

CLASS 1A

  • Fleming continues their recent hot stretch by sweeping Sedgwick County (2A) in three sets.  Both teams entered the match ranked in the top three of their respective class and both reached the state finals last May.  The win followed up the Wildcats key league win over Briggsdale last week and pushes their record to 13-3.
  • Briggsdale finished off a season sweep of Weldon Valley with a 3-1 win over the Warriors tonight.  The victory also kept the Falcons tied with Fleming for the North Central lead.
  • Sangre De Cristo also scored a nice win that will boost their RPI standing as they moved past Sargent (2A) in four games.  Both teams expect to challenge for their respective Southern Peaks league championship later this month.
  • Simla keeps rolling in the Black Forest by moving past Colorado D&B in three.  The Cubs officially captured the league championship with their win over Elbert two nights ago (Tuesday).
  • Cheyenne Wells picked up a nice non-conference win over Springfield (3-1).  The win gets the Tigers back to five hundred (9-9) before Saturday’s clash with Genoa Hugo.
  • Wiley is still unbeaten in the Ark Valley thanks to their 3-0 win over Kim/Branson.  The Panthers lead Springfield by one game in the conference standings and have a second meeting with the Longhorns still on the schedule.
  • Merino remains in contention for a top three finish in the Lower Platte as they downed Caliche 3-0.  The Rams are battling 2A rivals Wiggins and Holyoke for spots three through five and those two clubs meet on Friday.

CLASS 2A

  • Following a rugged 3-2 loss to Limon on Tuesday night, Calhan rebounded for a clean 3-0 sweep at Custer County on Thursday.  The win was their 10th of the season and keeps them in line for a playoff berth in Class 2A.
  • Fowler is now 12-0 in the Santa Fe conference as they beat Rye in three.  The win was the second this year over the Thunderbolts and allows the Grizzlies to stay two games up on every other league member.  Rye was tied with Hoehne in second but the loss drops them to third.
  • Meeker is still unbeaten overall and maintains their two-game edge over Soroco and West Grand in the Western Slope by beating North Park in three.  The Cowboys also topped Grand Valley for a non-conference win on Tuesday and are now 15-0.
  • Maybe the best win of the season for Telluride as the Miners hand Olathe a second straight loss.  Entering the week, the Pirates had not lost a non-conference game but now that number is two as they also fell to North Park on Tuesday.

CLASS 3A

  • Sterling has their second win of the week; downing 2A Yuma 3-0.  The Tigers beat Estes Park on Wednesday to remain tied with Eaton and University for second in the Patriot.  They’ve beaten both teams so they’re a solid pick to finish second to Resurrection Christian but they slid to 13th in RPI following the Wednesday win.  A top 12 finish in RPI is needed to host a regional.
  • Bayfield is back alone atop the IML standings with a 3-0 sweep of Centauri.  Both teams had one league loss entering the match but the Wolverines broke the tie with the impressive win.  The teams meet again next week so the race is far from over.  Centauri remains alone in second and still two games up on everyone else in the race for that spot.
  • Resurrection Christian bumps their mark to 15-0 on the season by beating Faith Christian in three.  The Cougars now get set to play Lutheran on Monday and then have another tough conference match with Eaton on the 26th.  A third top 10 opponents sits on the schedule as they’re also slated to meet DSST-Montview on the 28th.
  • It’s not official but Lamar virtually clinched the Tri Peaks championship as the 3-0 sweep of Vanguard gives them a two-game advantage at the top of the standings.  The win also kept the Savages unbeaten overall.

CLASS 4A

  • Pueblo West keeps their one-game edge in the South Central by sweeping Pueblo East.  The win was the second of the week for the Cylcones who took over sole possession of the conference lead by beating Pueblo County back on Tuesday.
  • Falcon picks up an important league win over Elizabeth (3-1) to remain one game back to Classical Academy in the Colorado Springs Metro North.  TCA won the first meeting with Falcon in five sets and they clash again next Thursday (21st).
  • Palmer Ridge remains alone in first inside the Pikes Peak as they win their rivalry game with Lewis Palmer.  The final was 3-0 as the Bears are still perfect against conference foes.  Cheyenne Mountain is up next on the schedule with a huge game at Rampart set for next Thursday.
  • D’Evelyn wins the battle of league unbeatens with Evergreen in the Jeffco.  The match went four sets.  That result leaves the Jaguars alone in first.

CLASS 5A

  • Rampart bounced back from their first league loss to Pine Creek on Tuesday by sweeping Vista Ridge.  The win keeps the Rams one game back of Pikes Peak leading Palmer Ridge (4A) and they still have a match remaining with the defending state champions.
  • Pine Creek follows up the upset of Rampart on Tuesday by taking out Air Academy in three.  The Eagles are 5-2 in the Pikes Peak league but remain two games back of Palmer Ridge.  They lost to the Bears 3-1 one week ago.
  • Grandview lost a key conference game to Cherry Creek to close September but they’re 4-0 this month thanks to their 3-0 sweep of Overland.  The Wolves may get another shot at Cherry Creek in the Centennial league tournament which starts on the 21st.  The Bruins clinched the regular season title with their 3-0 sweep of Eaglecrest.  Creek and Grandview both finished at 6-1 in league play but the Bruins won the head-to-head battle for the tiebreaker.
  • Broomfield continues to pace the Front Range league standings after beating Boulder 3-1.  The Eagles are 18-2 overall and 8-0 inside the conference with a one game edge on Fossil Ridge and Legacy.  They have a win over Fossil already on their resume with Legacy coming up next Thursday.  Legacy kept within range by beating Boulder on the road (3-1).  Fossil Ridge remains tied for second with their 3-0 sweep of Monarch.
  • Vista Peak downs Westminster 3-1 to remain unbeaten inside the East Metro and that keeps them tied with Brighton atop the standings.  Brighton is on the court against Prairie View tonight and will face off with Vista Peak next week.
  • Chaparral stays perfect in the Continental but just barely as they survived a five setter with Legend.  Game five was 17-15.
