With a full season ready to go, the 2021 football campaign gets started on Thursday with week one action stretching all the way to Saturday. Colorado Preps will post the top 10 schedule each Monday and the opening schedule includes somewhat of a quirk where four of the seven number one clubs are off this week.
The list of games is solid including 11 games pitting top 10 teams against one another. One of the top ones can be found in Class 1A where #3 Centauri entertains #5 Wray. Both clubs are coming off semifinal appearances last Fall. There’s also a top five clash in the six man division pitting #4 Stratton on the road to #5 Prairie. Class 3A features a very important early season game between #4 Holy Family and #6 Pueblo South. Both are likely playoff teams so the outcome will play into post-season bracketing.
Rivalry wise, some good pairings between Rifle-Palisade out West and Ponderosa-Legend in Parker. Of note is also the intra-state matchup of #1 Sedgwick County (8man) and Dundy County NE. Both are returning state champions from Fall 2020 with the Cougars starting the drive which they hope ends with a seventh consecutive state crown.
In the big school ranks, two high level opening week battles have #1 Valor Christian visiting #6 Regis and #7 Pomona hosting #9 Grandview.
Below is the entire schedule for Top 10 teams. Colorado Preps will look at some of these games leading up to Thursday and then recap all the action during the Friday Night Scoreboard Show. We enter our 19th year of providing in-depth coverage of high school football across Colorado.
