Non conference play continues into week two of the football season but the schedule is not void to tremendous pairings.   Two number ones and a number two get challenged by fourth ranked opponents and there are seven other top 10 contests.

Sanford took over the top spot in eight-man this week and is immediately put to the test against Dayspring Christian.  Both teams won lopsided matchups against southeast Colorado opponents in week one as the Indians slammed Crowley County and the Eagles blanked Springfield.  Up in Class 3A, top ranked Roosevelt is matched up with #4 Holy Family.  The Tigers will have the game experience advantage as they’re riding high on a come from behind win at Pueblo South last week while the Roughriders sat through a bye in week one and will get on the field for the first time on Friday.

Following up three top 10 matchups in six man last week, the rankings could see more shuffling next week as #2 Cheyenne Wells visits #4 Stratton.  Neither team was pushed in week one and the outcome should impact the top four seeds in the playoff bracket come November.

Elsewhere, we see two returning state champions get together in eight man as #2 Sedgwick County meets #10 Hoehne.  The Cougars won the Season A crown last Fall and Hoehne the Season C title last May.  In 1A, top ranked Limon heads west to #9 Meeker.  Both teams were off in week one so they will be itching to get on the gridiron.  The Badgers have won the last three championships in the division.

In 3A, #9 Pueblo South looks to bounce back from the Holy Family loss against #7 Discovery Canyon.  The Thunder trailed early but then ran past Lewis Palmer in their opener.  Class 4A sees two tremendous top 10 matchups in #2 Dakota Ridge – #8 Vista Ridge and #5 Montrose – #7 Fruita Monument.  Both Ridges are coming off high quality wins as the Eagles picked up a three-point win in Florida and the Wolves rallied for a six-point win over Windsor.  Montrose and Fruita Monument could be physical as both teams will look to establish the run.

And in 5A, traditional powers #2 Cherry Creek  and #10 Pomona collide once again.  Normally a state semifinal or championship pairing, this one takes place in week two and the Panthers need an upset of the two-time champs to avoid an 0-2 start.  Columbine is ranked 3rd and will face #9 Cherokee Trail.  The Cougars are new to the top 10 this week.

Below is the entire top 10 schedule and all games are Friday unless otherwise noted.  Colorado Preps will look at most of the games during our weekly classification previews and then recap the week with the Friday Night Scoreboard Show.
