Two-time Class 3A defending state champion St Mary’s played nearly flawless basketball in rolling past #3 Lutheran 77-42 on the road Tuesday night. The Pirates connected on 13 of 15 three point attempts as they improved to 6-0 on the season. Lutheran dropped their first game after winning their first four. The all-state backcourt tandem of Josephine Howery (27) and Seneca Hackley (21) combined for 48 points.
It was the third straight impressive win for the top ranked team in Class 3A as the Pirates also topped #2 Pagosa Springs (50-31) and University (77-42) while at the Buena Vista tournament. And next up they face a rare matchup with 5A Cherry Creek. Both teams enter Thursday’s contest ranked #1 in their respective class.
