TOP VOLLEYBALL MATCHES – WEEK 8

Tuesday Volleyball

The 2018 volleyball campaign enters the final two weeks of the regular season for Class 1A while clubs in the remaining four divisions have three weeks left before post-season play opens.  League races are starting to take shape and this week several teams have a chance to win titles or at least take control of the standings.

We’ll expand on the races with our weekly classification reports that are published each Tuesday through Thursday but below is a list of the most important matches for the week ahead.

Each class has at least one high level contest that will draw statewide interest.

In Class 1A, Weldon Valley entertains Briggsdale with the North Central title on the line.

In Class 2A, Yuma and Wiggins are the two remaining unbeaten teams left in the Lower Platte and they battle on Friday.  A top two overall playoff seed could also go to the winner.

There are several matches of note in 3A as Lutheran meets Faith Christian in the Metro while the Patriot includes dates between Eaton-Valley, University-Platte Valley and University-Sterling.

Up in the 4A division, the feature attraction has Lewis Palmer facing Discovery Canyon as those two clubs have spent the past couple of weeks ranked 1-2 in the state and remain in the same spots inside the RPI numbers.  The Rangers and Thunder also share the Pikes Peak lead.  The undercard in 4A has Holy Family facing Windsor with the winner taking over the top spot in the Tri Valley.  Both teams are also in the top six of RPI within their classification.

In Class 5A, Pine Creek, Doherty and Rampart share the CS Metro lead and the clubs meet in two separate matches this week.  Fruita Monument can also lock up the SWL crown by beating Montrose on Tuesday.  Denver South and Denver East also collide in a good contest inside the DPL.
