Several games have been postponed tonight but there are several important matchups left on the schedule.  We break down the results in both the boys and girls divisions concerning how they impact league standings.  Check back throughout the night for updates.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Both Fruita Monument and Grand Junction Central picked up wins to set up a first place showdown on Friday night.  The Wildcats handled Grand Junction 51-14 and Fruita rolled past Montrose 45-25.  Both bump their league mark to 4-0 ahead of their meeting in Fruita on Friday.  Game two is set for February 15th.
  • Rye continues to dominate the Santa Fe schedule.  The #3 Thunderbolts (2A) were paired up with #8 Hoehne tonight and rolled past the Farmers 59-27.  Both clubs were 8-0 in conference play so the Thunderbolts are now alone in first with the Farmers one game back.  The 32-point margin is their closest league game to date so there is a wide gap between Rye and the rest of the conference.  They will face many of the same teams in districts.
  • Couple of good non-league wins for members of the 2A Southern Peaks as Sargent downed 1A La Veta 52-31 and Center fought past South Park 42-25.  The Vikings may get a district date with the Burros later this month so the win should give them confidence and probably a higher seed.
  • Pine Creek moved to 6-1 in the Pikes Peak league and stayed one game back of first place Doherty with their win over Cheyenne Mountain.  The final was 48-33.  Pine Creek challenges Doherty on Friday.
  • Top ranked Briggsdale stayed unbeaten with a 71-38 win over Haxtun.  The Falcons led 14-0 before giving up a shot attempt and were not threatened from that point on.
  • Moffat County bounces back from a tough loss to #9 Delta last week to surprise #8 Grand Valley 50-39.  The two teams are now tied for second and one game back of Delta as the Panthers held off Coal Ridge 40-34 tonight.  The Titans are now in fourth but two games back in the loss column.
  • 2A #2 Sanford stepped away from conference play on Tuesday and picked up a high quality win over Escalante NM (62-58).  The opponent is a top two ranked team in their state and the competition will help prep the Indians and give them confidence for the playoff drive.
  • Denver East beat Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday so the Angels will keep a share of first place in the Denver Public League.  They opened the night tied with George Washington and the Patriots had a non-league game with 5A ThunderRidge.
  • First of three major matchups in the 3A Patriot goes to #4 Eaton as they down #2 University 55-50 on Tuesday.  The two are battling with #1 Platte Valley for the league championship and possibly the number one overall seed.
  • #9 Wiggins (2A) celebrated their first appearance in the rankings by beating Prairie 38-22.  It was a non-conference win for the Tigers.
  • Glenwood Springs (4A) opened a two game edge for the Western Slope championship by beating Summit 36-29.  The Tigers were one game back in the loss column as the game started but now drop into a tie with Steamboat Springs.

BOYS BASKETBAL

  • Hanover picked up a very impressive 58-53 overtime win against Simla.  The victory keeps the Hornets ted with #4 ECA atop the 1A Black Forest.  For Simla, it was their first league loss so they alone in third.  Evangelical Christian moved past Fountain Valley 55-22 to keep their piece of first place.
  • Denver Jewish Day cruises by Mile High Academy 88-36 so they stay tied with Flatirons Academy and Denver Waldorf for second in the 1A 5280 standings.  #9 Denver Waldorf downed #5 Belleview Christian 52-49 so now all four teams share the top spot with one league loss.  Only two of the teams will advance from districts in the format in place this year.
  • Pueblo County (4A) knocks out Pueblo Centennial 68-31 to remain third in the South Central.  Will be difficult for the Hornets to move up as they’re trying to chase #1 Pueblo South and #5 Pueblo Central inside the league.  Their two losses are against the Colts and Wildcats but they will get a second crack at both later this month.  South rolled past Pueblo East 69-26 and Central handled Pueblo West 82-42 as well this evening.
  • Crested Butte earned a quality win over Del Norte (53-39) in the 2A Southern Peaks.  Both teams were tied with Sanford atop the standings going in so the Titans remain tied with the Indians in first.
  • Due to some early losses, University is likely out of the 3A Patriot league championship chase but the postseason seeding and RPI numbers will get a boost thanks to a 70-59 win over #10 Eaton tonight.
  • #3 Briggsdale (1A) suffered their first loss of the season as they fell on a neutral court to #10 Haxtun 69-64.  The game was played at NJC in Sterling and that could also be the site for the rematch in districts should the two clubs meet up there.
  • Holly avenged an earlier loss to Fowler by beating the 9th ranked Grizzlies (2A) 45-43 on Tuesday.  The game will not change the Santa Fe league standings as it was a non-conference battle.  As a result, the Grizzlies stay one game ahead of Holly and remain alone in first place
  • #9 Faith Christian (3A) earned a quality conference win over Lutheran (47-45) and that result keeps them alone in second place and one game back of #3 Colorado Academy in the Metro race.
  • Second place in the 4A/3A Colorado chase is starting to sort out.  Four teams opened the night with one league loss and one back of first place Skyview.  One fell off the pace on Tuesday as Englewood beat Aurora Central 69-57.  It was the Trojans second loss of the season.  Englewood meets another one-loss team on Thursday when they host Eagle Ridge Academy.
  • Resurrection Christian won their tenth straight game by beating Brush 49-43.  The win also sets up a first place showdown with top ranked Sterling on Friday.  Both teams are unbeaten in league play going in.  Sterling was scheduled to play Valley but that game was pushed back to Monday.
