Colorado Preps again recaps the night of basketball in both the boys and girls divisions with our Tuesday blog.  Final scores will be posted in sister stories on the website but here is where we break down what those results mean to conference races and the league championship picture.  Check back throughout the night as we will update often.

BOYS

  • #2 Sterling (3A) wins for the second straight night as their win over Estes Park keeps them alone in second behind Resurrection Christian in the Patriot.  The Tigers also slammed Valley on Monday.  Resurrection Christian rolled Valley 72-20 to maintain sole possession of first.
  • Eaton wins the battle with Platte Valley 79-63 and the Reds now sit alone in third place behind Resurrection Christian and Sterling in the 3A Patriot.  Both teams share third going in.
  • Excellent night for Middle Park as the Panthers score a quality win over Coal Ridge.  The Panthers are now 15-2 on the season and could see a bump in RPI as they entered the night 17th in Class 3A.  They also lead the Frontier conference with eight wins in eight league games.
  • Sierra Grande wins again as the Panthers roll Moffat 67-36.  They are unbeaten on the season at 14-0 and began the game ranked #1 in RPI.
  • Fossil Ridge survived a late charge by Horizon to edge the Hawks 61-59.  Both top ten teams were unbeaten in the Front Range standings entering the game so now the 2nd ranked Sabercats are alone in first.
  • Excellent win for #7 Denver Jewish Day over #8 Denver Waldorf inside the 1A 5280.  The final was 53-52.  The two clubs opened the night tied with Belleview Christian and Flatirons Academy in first place.  Belleview Christian also keeps a share of first place by stunning Flatirons Academy 51-48 with a last second three-pointer.
  • No trouble for #4 Aspen (3A) to stay unbeaten as they pounded Basalt 63-18.  The victory also keeps the Skiers unbeaten in the Western Slope chase and alone in first.  Now they prep for a major road trip and challenge at #8 Highland on Thursday.
  • CORRECTION:  Chaparral hands top ranked ThunderRidge their first in-state loss and the 62-41 win also creates a three-way tie for the top spot in the Continental.  Since Mountain Vista also beat Heritage 58-53, the Wolverines, Grizzlies and Golden Eagles all have one conference loss and share the league lead.  Another very important game is set for Friday between ThunderRidge and Mountain Vista.  That winner will keep a share of first with Chaparral if the Wolverines get by local rival Rock Canyon.
  • 4A #1 Lewis Palmer wraps up the Pikes Peak championship with an impressive 74-47 win over Fountain Fort Carson.  The Rangers are 9-0 in league play with a two-game edge on Doherty and Air Academy.
  • Byers (2A) stays unbeaten in the Mile High with an easy 66-17 win over Deer Trail.  A tougher challenge is coming on Friday as the Bulldogs face Limon for the conference championship.
  • Longmont finishes third in the rugged 4A/5A Northern conference with a 42-35 win over Holy Family.  Both teams held third going into the contest.
  • Crowley County’s 43-33 win over Fowler leaves Holly alone atop the 2A Santa Fe conference.  It was the Grizzlies second league loss and they are the only conference team to beat Holly.  Holly though moved into sole possession of the conference lead with their 63-51 win over Las Animas.
  • Not official yet, but DSST-Green Valley Ranch basically clinched the 3A Confluence crown with their win over Aurora West Prep.  Green Valley led DSST-Conservatory Green, Aurora West Prep and DSST-Byers by one game going in and now they’ve beaten all three clubs.
  • Steamboat Springs kept their one game lead on Eagle Valley and Palisade in the 4A Western Slope by beating Battle Mountain 60-50.

  • Highland knocked out Lyons tonight and the win keeps the Huskies in the 2A Mile High championship discussion.  They are now 6-1 but one game back of co-leaders Dayspring Christian and Heritage Christian.  Those two meet on Thursday.
  • Top ranked Briggsdale (1A) was pushed a bit on Tuesday but remained unbeaten with their 68-49 win over #6 Lone Star.  The Longhorns did manage to score the most points against the Falcons this year.  The two Northeast clubs could meet again during the regional tournament.
  • Rye (2A) clinches the Santa Fe championship by beating second place Hoehne 63-36.  It was the second meeting in seven days between the Thunderbolts and Farmers with Rye also dominating the first game; winning by 32 points.

  • Top ranked and defending 3A state champion Platte Valley remains unbeaten overall and takes over the top spot in the 3A Patriot with a 58-48 win over #3 Eaton.  Eaton slides into a second place tie with #4 University but owns the tiebreaker since they beat the Bulldogs last week.  Platte Valley and University play next week to finalize the top three spots.

  • #6 Cherry Creek (5A) hands 4A #3 Green Mountain their first loss of the season as they downed the Rams 47-35.  Despite the loss, the game will help the Rams as they look for another Final Four appearance.   And it should boost both clubs RPI.
  • Del Norte wins the third place battle with Monte Vista 34-33 inside the 2A Southern Peaks.  The Tigers now stay one game back of co-leaders Sanford and Sargent.  The two leaders collide on Thursday.
  • #3 Highlands Ranch (5A) continues to set the pace in the Continental as they beat Regis on Tuesday.  The Falcons are now 7-0 in the conference with a two-game edge on Regis (4-2).  With the Regis loss, Chaparral (5-1) is now alone in second thanks to their 51-37 win over ThunderRidge.
