Valor Christian and Monarch advanced through the Class 5A hockey quarterfinals and move on to Saturday’s semifinals in Colorado Springs.

Valor Christian 6, Heritage 2

After a scoreless first period, Dawson Charles, Andrew Jenkins and Hoyt Sorensen poured in goals for Valor Christian to give them a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the third.

Heritage responded with two goals to make a one-goal game, but Jenkins added his second of the game with 4:37 left on the clock, then completed his hat trick two minutes later.

Monarch 2, Denver East 1

David Marcus and Jake Oullahan gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead in the second period. The Angels got one goal from Peter Galambos, but couldn’t get anything else by Monarch goalie Joshua Ringoen. He faced 26 shots from Denver East and turned away 25 of them to get his team into their first state championship game since 2017.
