Polls continue to change in the three largest classes as teams in the rankings continue to beat up on one another inside conference play.  There are newcomers in all three classes this week and a new number one team in Class 5A.
These polls are from Colorado Preps and are not included in the CHSAA Media/Coaches polls that are released each Monday.

CLASS 3A

  1. Eaton (12-1)
  2. University (11-2)
  3. Lamar (15-1)
  4. Lutheran (12-2)
  5. Centauri (12-0)
  6. Bayfield (8-4)
  7. Resurrection Christian (11-3)
  8. Valley (9-5)
  9. Middle Park (9-2)
  10. Machebeuf (10-2)

OTHERS:  Coal Ridge (7-0), Faith Christian (9-3), Bennett (11-1), Prospect Ridge (9-2), Sterling (9-4), Frontier Academy (6-3), Buena Vista (9-2), Colorado Springs Christian (7-4), Delta (8-4)
NOTES:  Biggest mover this week is Centauri as they climb from outside the poll to fifth.  The Falcons picked up their biggest win in recent memory downing Bayfield in three sets on Saturday.  They now have control of the IML chase and ended the questions about their strength of schedule.  With an unbeaten record, they vault into the top five.  Another big mover is Lutheran as the Lions went up three spots.  They took advantage of losses by Bayfield, Resurrection Christian and Valley.  With Centauri also moving in, one team had to fall out and that club was Faith Christian.  They lost to Machebeuf head-to-head so we kept the Buffs in and left the Eagles outside the top 10.  Another team looking to find room in the rankings is unbeaten Coal Ridge.  Looking ahead to this week, the attention will be on Tuesday nights match between #1 Eaton and #2 University in Greeley.

CLASS 4A

  1. Lewis Palmer (13-0)
  2. Holy Family (13-2)
  3. Niwot (11-1)
  4. Pueblo West (10-1)
  5. Valor Christian (8-3)
  6. Thomas Jefferson (9-3)
  7. Ponderosa (6-6)
  8. D’Evelyn (10-0)
  9. Palmer Ridge (11-2)
  10. Longmont (11-2)

OTHERS:  Cheyenne Mountain (3-8), George Washington (10-3), Denver South (10-3), Evergreen (7-5), Mountain View (9-4), Pueblo County (10-2), Windsor (7-5), Eagle Valley (9-4), Air Academy (6-6)
NOTES:  The 4A poll is again solid this week with the only changes occurring in the final three spots.  D’Evelyn moved up two spots to eighth as they stayed unbeaten by beating Evergreen and Green Mountain.  Palmer Ridge remains ninth despite a loss to top ranked Lewis Palmer as they played well against the Rangers and gave proof they belong in the rankings.  Longmont rejoins the rankings replace Cheyenne Mountain who dropped two more matches on the weekend.  The Indians have played a very strong schedule but have posted only three wins so they leave the rankings this week.  They have a chance to rejoin the poll next week with a win over Palmer Ridge when the two collide on Thursday.

CLASS 5A

  1. Fort Collins (11-2)
  2. Castle View (11-2)
  3. Mountain Vista (11-2)
  4. Fruita Monument (12-1)
  5. Chaparral (9-3)
  6. Chatfield (10-2)
  7. Rock Canyon (10-3)
  8. Rocky Mountain (12-1)
  9. Fossil Ridge (9-3)
  10. Highlands Ranch (12-1)

OTHERS:  Cherry Creek (11-2), Coronado (10-2), Rampart (7-4), Legacy (11-5), Cherokee Trail (8-5), Legend (8-5)
NOTES:  It’s almost to the point where we should start over with our big school rankings.  Teams continue to beat up on one another and using head-to-head is almost impossible.  In many cases, Team A has beaten Team B, Team B has knocked off Team C but Team C has a win over Team A.  The Front Range and Continental conferences are solid proof.  So maybe we should blow up the polls and start again.  Or we could simply use the RPI standings which are much different than our rankings.  There Fort Collins is 12th and Highlands Ranch is #2.  More changes could come again next week as Fort Collins has a huge conference date with Fossil Ridge.  That match is on Thursday.  Starting the week is another showdown between Chaparral and Rock Canyon inside the Continental.  It will be played on Monday.
