VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE OPENS TODAY

Several great storylines are in place for the 1A volleyball season and the state championship race seems wide open at this point. The regular season is also filled with some intriguing matchups.

Practice for all volleyball clubs in Colorado officially started today as teams across the state began the quest for a state championship.  Official matches can start as early as August 22nd with Valor Christian (5A), Lewis Palmer (4A), Lutheran (3A), Yuma (2A) and Kit Carson (1A) all hoping to defend their state championships from a year ago.

Colorado Preps will again provide the most in-depth coverage of the season with weekly recaps of each classification, previews of the top matches and the release of official rankings each Monday.  Late in the regular season, we’ll also begin the predictions of where teams may be placed in post-season brackets.

For the second straight year, the season will conclude with the three-day state tournament November 14-16th at the Denver Coliseum.  12 teams from each class will advance.

 

DATES TO REMEMBER FOR THE 2019 SEASON

  • August 22nd:  Regular season matches can begin
  • October 26th: Class 1A Regular season wraps up
  • November 2nd: Regular season matches for Classes 2A-5A conclude
  • November 2nd: 1A District tournaments conclude
  • November 9th: Regional tournaments in each class must conclude
  • November 14-16th: State Tournament at the Denver Coliseum

 

STORY LINES TO WATCH

  • Kit Carson seeks a third consecutive championship in Class 1A
  • Defending Class 2A champion Yuma looks to land a berth in the state finals for a sixth consecutive season
  • After becoming the first team in 3A outside the Patriot conference to win a state title since 2009, can the Lutheran Lions repeat.
  • Lewis Palmer is the odds-on favorite to land a fourth consecutive championship in Class 4A
  • Valor Christian looks to become the first back-to-back state champion in Class 5A since 2014 when Grandview won the second of two straight
