Since we cannot again provide a Colorado PrepsCast providing a recap of the past weekend in high school football, we instead will break down the important wins from the weekend below.  Highlights involve crucial wins in league play and teams that snapped losing streaks to opponents and overall.

SIX-MAN

  • Stratton likely wrapped up the East Central championship with their win over Idalia.  Both teams were unbeaten in league play and the Eagles now stand alone in first.  Their lone loss this season is against top ranked Cheyenne Wells
  • Prairie and Fleming both picked up wins to remain tied for the North conference lead.  The tie will be short-lived as the Mustangs and Wildcats collide in week seven.  Both are unbeaten in league action and have just one loss overall
  • North Park also scored a huge win inside the North by beating Peetz.  The victory should secure no worse than fourth place in the standings and that could be good enough to make the playoff bracket
  • Cheraw rolled Eads to score their first win over the Eagles since 1982

EIGHT-MAN

  • Mancos celebrated their move into the top spot of the statewide rankings by beating Dove Creek 22-14.  It was a crucial win inside the Mountain division and now the Bluejays have two weeks to prepare for another big showdown against Sanford
  • Fowler, Holly and Hoehne all moved to 3-0 in the Ark Valley with wins on Friday night.  Hoehne had the most difficult time as the Farmers held off Wiley 40-36
  • Byers and Front Range Christian played a wide one on Saturday night as the Bulldogs won 60-58.  It took FOUR overtimes to decide a winner
  • Vail Christian did not suffer a letdown from their big win over Sanford in week five as they rolled past Plateau Valley 40-14
  • Hayden moved to 4-1 on the season by beating Soroco 48-0.  The Tigers have won at least five games only once since compiling a 7-4 record in 2012
  • Haxtun kept pace with Sedgwick County in the Plains league by beating Merino.  The Bulldogs also moved to 6-0 on the season and they’ve not won seven games in a single season since 2011

CLASS 1A

  • Roaring Fork toppled Olathe 30-20 to snap a 20-game losing streak.  It was their first football win since beating Coal Ridge in 2016.  The Rams did not field a program in 2018 and 2019
  • Buena Vista rallied from a 14-0 deficit for the second week as they stunned North Fork 28-21.  The Demons also edged Meeker 17-14 in week five after being down 14-0 at halftime
  • Centauri whipped Center 60-6 and now has collected 21 consecutive wins in the Southern Peaks
  • Strasburg extended their win streak over Highland to six as they edged the Huskies 19-7
  • Holyoke, Limon and Wray picked up opening wins in the rugged North Central but all six teams remain in the top 15 of RPI
  • Florence is now 6-0 after rolling Rye 52-0.  They’ve now outscored their opponents 316-15 this season.  Holyoke is the only team to dent the scoreboard against a Huskies defense that has posted five shutouts

CLASS 2A

  • Eaton, Resurrection Christian and Severance all remain unbeaten in the Patriot West as they all posted wins in week six.  Resurrection Christian plays the other two over the following two weeks and both will be away from home.  First up is Eaton
  • Brush ended a five-game losing streak to Platte Valley by blanking the Broncos 41-0 on Friday.  IT was their first win since 2014 when the Beetdiggers picked up a 34-28 win
  • Aspen had suffered two straight losses to Rifle by a combined score of 105-14 but broke through last Friday with a 34-19 decision
  • Moffat County moved past Basalt 19-6 and improved to 5-0.  They’ve not won six games in a single season since going 7-3 in 2015
  • Northfield is playing in their fourth year of varsity football and probably scored their biggest win in school history as they blanked Faith Christian 42-0.  The Nighthawks now are favored to land the Flatirons championship
  • Classical Academy handled La Junta 45-7 on Friday.  It was their fourth straight win to open the season and they’ve now outscored opponents 174-33

CLASS 3A

  • Only eight games were played in the entire division over the weekend but three teams, Roosevelt, Evergreen & Frederick, collected wins to stay unbeaten
  • Roosevelt blanked Glenwood Springs 42-0 and the top ranked Riders have outscored opponents 244-7.  They gave up seven points to Holy Family in the season opener but have not allowed a point since.  Next up is a big date with Mead
  • Niwot is now 3-2 after beating Skyview on Friday.  The Cougars have not won more than three games in any season since winning seven in 2008

CLASS 4A

  • Ponderosa stretched their winning streak to five by handling Air Academy 60-7.  They host Palmer Ridge in an important week seven clash
  • Aurora Central’s 48-0 shutout of Grand Junction pushed the Trojans to 5-1 this season.  The program had just six wins over the past four seasons combined
  • Montrose rallied from a 21-14 deficit at halftime to stun Palmer Ridge 28-21.  There were only five combined possessions in a second half dominated by the Indians running game
  • Fountain Fort Carson overcame four interceptions to edge Mesa Ridge 7-0.  The only score of the game came in the third quarter
  • The Metro 1 (aka the Jeffco) still has two unbeaten squads as Dakota Ridge (Bear Creek) and Golden (Standley Lake) picked up conference opening wins.  A third league member, Chatfield, is 5-1 with Bear Creek still 4-2 despite the loss to Dakota Ridge.

CLASS 5A

  • Regis outscored Chaparral 42-0 in the second half as they blew open a game tied 14-14 at halftime
  • Cherry Creek tallied 28 unanswered second half points in their 41-10 win over Cherokee Trail.  The Bruins actually trailed 10-6 early in the contest
  • Arvada West ended a 10-game losing streak to Columbine with a 24-21 win on Friday.  The Wildcats last win in the series came in 2005 (39-33).  A touchdown with 16 seconds left gave A-West the come from behind victory
  • Douglas County is 6-0 after beating Doherty on Saturday.  It’s the most wins for the Huskies since going 7-4 in 2013.  The Huskies experienced just eight wins over the previous four seasons
  • Pomona recovered nicely from a late loss to Smoky Hill in week five by exploding for 49 points in their win over Lakewood
  • Overland’s 14-10 win over Denver East was just their second on the season but it will be very important inside the Metro 2 where only the league champion can qualify for the playoffs.  The Blazers remaining four opponents have a combined four wins overall
