It’s been 19 years since Windsor raised a state championship banner for softball.

The Wizards want to end that stretch in 2025. And another streak — their state-best 14 straight wins — should bolster their confidence heading into October.

Windsor (16-1), aiming for its second state title in softball, and first since 2006, has lost just once this fall. That came to a team from Nebraska — Papillion-LaVista South — on Aug. 22.

This past week, the Wizards improved to 8-0 in 5A/4A Northern League play after sweeping 5A No. 26 Fossil Ridge in their two-game season series.

Junior ace Jenna McGinnis, as usual, was brilliant. She threw nine spotless innings across the wins on Saturday and Thursday. She is now 6-0 this season with the seventh-best ERA among the states playing softball this fall. She’s thrown 47 innings, allowing just four earned runs (0.60 ERA).

She had more than enough run support, in part thanks to senior Izzy Eisenmann, who drove six runs with four hits and three doubles in those two games.

Thursday, Eismann had a season-high five RBIs in an 11-1 win over the Sabercats, giving her a team-best 24 on the season.

By the time regional tournaments roll around (Oct. 17-18), the Wizards more than likely will be in a very good spot. Probably as one of Class 4A’s eight hosts.

Before that, they have six games remaining in the regular season. They face a pair of teams with losing records in Poudre (Friday) and Rocky Mountain (Tuesday). They then have three top-10 teams over their last four games, hosting defending 5A champ Riverdale Ridge (5A No. 10) on Wednesday, Fort Collins (No. 8) on Oct. 4, before ending at at 4A No. 4 Holy Family on Oct. 9.

Let’s dive into a few other upcoming matchups with winning streaks on the line.

Class 5A

Broomfield at Cherokee Trail; Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m.

The 5A No. 1 Eagles and No. 2 Cougars have each won seven games in a row.

Broomfield (14-2), in fact, has won 37 straight games in the regular season against teams from Colorado — a run that dates back to 2023.

This fall, the Eagles’ only two losses came at an out-of-state tournament in August.

The Cougars (11-3), meanwhile, haven’t lost since Sept. 9, when they fell to No. 6 Legend (which has 5A’s longest winning streak at 10).

Kiley Wheaton hit her third home run of the season in Broomfield’s 11-1 win over Frederick on Thursday, while Taylen Shaven clubbed her second and Sydney Cobb her first in CT’s 13-2 win over Eaglecrest.

Class 4A

Palmer Ridge at Lutheran; Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The 4A No. 2 Bears (15-3) rallied from six runs down to beat the No. 6 Lions, 10-7, on Sept. 10. Corinna Arellano hit two home runs in the win — part of a crazy run that saw her blast six HRs in four games. She has 10 bombs on the year.

Lutheran (14-4) hasn’t lost since and is winners of six straight over the past two weeks. Annie Schroeder threw a five-inning, no-hitter in the Lions’ 11-1 win against Air Academy on Monday. She also had a six-inning no-no in a 10-0 win over Discovery Canyon on Sept. 15.

Class 3A

Alamosa at Southeast Colorado; Saturday at 4 p.m.

No. 4 Southeast Colorado (9-2) beat No. 9 Lamar and No. 15 La Junta over the past week, extending its 3A-best win streak to eight games. Kara Wilson, Emma Wollert and Zoe Martinez all hit home runs in that span.

The Angels will now look to beat Alamosa for the second time this season. They won 11-6 on Sept. 11 as Lexi Shotton had four hits and a home run.

Since then, the Mean Moose (12-6) have won four of five. Their offense has sizzled their past two games as they’ve combined to score 36 runs.

Taelynn Kreps-Smith went 7 for 7 with eighth RBIs and four extra-base hits across Alamosa’s 20-2 win over Gunnison on Tuesday and its 16-12 win over Montezuma-Cortez on Thursday.
